A. Jack Dyer, 72-year-old Walters man, won the southwestern Oklahoma championship for fiddlers in the district contest in the men over 50 category, held in Lawton last week...A 9 1/2 pound girl was born recently to Mr. and Mrs. Wade Moore, of the Plainview community...A daughter, Charlotte Ann, was born April 1 to Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Thompson, of Walters Route 5... Temple school patrons approved the $6000. bond issue last week. When supplemented by WPA funds, the $6000 is expected to be sufficient to build a new gymnasium, new buildings for home economics and vocational agriculture activities, a janitor’s house, two tennis courts and an addition to the existing one-story classroom building. The 29-year-old two-story structure which will be in use the remainder of the current school year, will be torn down and materials salvaged for use in construction of the new buildings...Miss Maxine Bishop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Stevens, of Devol, became the bride Friday night, of Sidney Berendzen, son of Mrs. Stella Berendzen, of Walters.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McMasters, Walters, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miss Diana Mowles, to Jerry Petty, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Petty, also of Walters, on April 24...Miss Judy Goss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Goss, of Randlett, and Almus B. Branan, Jr., of Big Lake, Texas, exchanged wedding vows March 8, in the Union Valley Baptist church...The “Fred Harris Headliners,” sisters of the democratic candidate for the U. S. Senate, will campaign in 14 counties and 21 towns in the final weeks of the race leading to the May 5 primary. The sisters are Mrs. Nathan Uselton, Mrs. J. T. Stauffer and Mrs. Jan Worsoe.

Margie Sue Barham, daughter of Ralph and Jackie Jarrell, was crowned Miss Walters 1984 Saturday evening at the Miss Walters Pageant. First runner-up was Michelle Phillips and LeAnn Logan was second runner-up...Ronnie and Samantha Woods announce the arrival of their son, Richard James, born Sunday, April 1. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Tony Gass, of Pearsall, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Woods, of Waurika...Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Crocker will be honored in observance of their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday, April 15th. The couple were married April 17, 1934 at Waurika. Being natives of Cotton county, they have spent all of their life on the farm where they have now retired, near Devol... Broadway Texaco at 202 S. Broadway is now under the new ownership of Ike Hart...A marriage license was issued to Daniel R. Roark, 22, and Pamela J. Kowalski, 18, both of Randlett.

A service station and grocery store combination is the latest business firm in Temple to remodel. Barksdale’s station, located at the junction of West Oklahoma and SH 65 has been almost doubled in size by recent enlargement...James L. Sleepy Taylor, former Temple football coach, has been named interim president of Cameron College. Taylor was coach in Temple until 1952 when he went to Velma Alma.
