Stanley Joe Garrison, 86 Walters, OK

A Celebration of Life Service for Joe Garrison of Walters, OK, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the chapel of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lawton, OK at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 2, 2024. The Very Reverend Fr. Phillip Seeton and Reverend Fr. Robert T. Wood officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK, at a later date. Stanley Joe Garrison, 86, of Walters, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family, after a lengthy battle with cancer on January 27, 2024. He was born August 17, 1937, in Walters, OK to Ervin Ray Garrison and Velma (Brownlee) Garrison.

Joe attended school in Walters and Iowa Park. He attended Lee College, Baytown, TX and Sam Houston State in Huntsville, TX. He married Linda Norman Garrison, June 1958, to this marriage a son was born, Craig Garrison. Later he married Marcella “Marcy” L Sandoval on December 18, 1976. To this union a daughter was born, Kasee Jo Garrison-Powers.

Joe served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged from both. He was very proud of his achievement in the Army, where he tried out and was selected as a member of the Army Football team in Germany. He got to play with thirty men who had played college football; including an All American and an Honorable Mention for All American. The team won the Western Conference Championship in Europe.

He was also a man of many talents. He climbed the corporate ladder from assistant manager to manager to supervisor for General Finance Corporation. He owned and operated a restaurant and private club in San Marcos, TX. He was also a sales manager for RC Cola in the Houston District while also owning a restaurant and catering service in Huntsville.

Along with his business endeavors, Joe had creative talents as well. For many years, he was especially passionate when it came to his unique abstract paintings. Later in life, he would switch creative mediums. He set down the paint brush and picked up his saw. He made many tables and other furniture from scrap wood he would find. He could do just about anything he set his mind to. Until his health failed him due to an injury he received during his tour of duty in Germany.

He is survived by his wife of the home, a son, Craig Garrison of Walters, a daughter and son-in- law, Kasee Jo and Justin Powers of Comanche, one sister, Patricia Ray of Lawton, a brother, Gordon Langford and wife Joyce of Indiahoma, 4 grandchildren, Brayden and Wyatt Harris of Comanche, Kylee and her husband Gavyn Wheeler of Waurika, and Averie Powers of OKC, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Dr. Alberto and Elizaida Sandoval, three brothers, Eugene, Ervin R Garrison Jr. and Charles “Chubby” Garrison, two sisters, JoAnn Raney and Billie R. Dutton.
