A live radio show in partnership with Wright Wradio will be presented October 22, 29 and November 5 by the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Art, Communication and Theatre and the Department of Music.
Anthony E. Palermo’s Rick Lowell, Private Eye – ‘The Stuff That Dreams are Made Of’ will air live on 95.5 FM The Coyote from the SWOSU Hilltop Theatre. The radio show will be staged and broadcast over three different nights: Part I on October 22, Part II on October 29 and Part III on November 5 at 7 p.m. nightly.
The company is comprised of voice actors, technicians, sound effects artists, musicians and designers. Reminiscent of the 1940s & 50s radio programming, the show will feature live sound effects and music of the 1940s.
The play is a detective story set in 1942 Los Angeles. Palermo said that besides being a paraphrase from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, ‘the stuff that dreams are made of’ was also the final line of the 1941 Humphrey Bogart picture, The Maltese Falcon. In that film, several crooks were conniving to possess an antique, foot-high statue of a falcon – made of solid gold and covered with rare jewels.
“Our radio story is related to The Maltese Falcon film, but our detective here is trying to find the prop-master who worked on the film,” co-director Steve Strickler said. “The prop falcon has disappeared and people are trying to get it, thinking it’s the real Maltese Falcon, worth up to a million dollars.”
The story opens in February 1942, just after the film has ended its run in theatres and World War II has just begun.
