Hello. If you don’t know me, my name is Clint Thurman. I am asking for your vote to re-elect me for Ward 3, City Councilman. I have served in this position for three years and am currently filling the position of mayor. As a Walters’ citizen for over 70 years, I have worked to serve this community, and am working to make it safer, stronger and better. I truly care about this community and wish to continue to serve.

I was born here. My parents were A.B. and Helen Thurman. They served this community and taught my brother and I to do the same. I graduated in 1969 fron Walters High School. I raised my family here, and my wife and I are still active in this community. I started my service as a lifeguard while in high school and joined the Oklahoma National Guard at age 18, serving for 10 years and leaving as Sergeant First Class. I was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years, retiring as a captain, while at the same time serving as a local EMT.

I helped organize and served in the Auxiliary Police Department to keep Walters safe. I also served 9 years on the Walters School Board, only resigning due to the health of my first wife. I have also been actively involved in our school, our youth and our church.

This community has changed over the years, but I truly believe that most citizens want the benefits of a small, caring community. We still support and care for each other. We still cheer for our teams, our youth and their achievements. We still take food and supplies to those in need. With just a phone call, often a street will be filled with people offering help in crisis.

It’s not perfect, but those of us that serve are still striving to make it better every day. We can’t get it all done or fixed in a day, a week or even in a year. There is always something or somebody else that needs help. Just like raising your family, taking care of your community is a lifetime job.

Please give me the opportunity to continue to serve Walters and its citizens. Please vote for me on April 2.

Thank you
