Opening of The New Deal Laundry in Walters was announced this week by Mr. and Mrs. Ora Correll, managers. Mrs. Correll is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson. The laundry is located on North Broadway in the building north of Rusty Allen’s Cream Station. It is equipped with a large water heater and two washing stands, composed of Maytag washing machines and three large tubs on each stand...Vic Higdon assumed the management of Nelson’s Meat Market, first door north of the Grand Theatre, formerly operated by Edward Nelson, Sr., and it will now be called Vic’s Market...Little Evon Hatcher of the Rabbit Creek Community, was bitten by a cat last Monday night. The cat was rabid and she was rushed to the doctor where she will receive several shots of serum...Mr. and Mrs. Louis Beznoska of near Geronimo, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party at their home Friday evening...Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Burton of the Ruth Community, are the parents of a boy born January 23. They have named him Thomas...Mr. and Mrs. Ray T. Prough of the Union Valley Community, are the parents of a big baby girl...Elmer Curry of the Ahpeatone Community, was bitten by a mad dog last week. He is going to have to take treatments this week.

Lucian J. Hunt, Walters graduate, has been named Vice-President in charge of American Airlines Jet Maintenance and Engineering Center, Tulsa. A 1940 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, Hunt has held both land and sea commands, including flight duty...Karol Vardell, of Walters, will receive a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas College of Arts and Sciences at Austin January 30... Gerald Hertzler, of Walters, senior student at Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, is leading scorer for the OBU Bison basketball team in state collegiate conference play this season...A pickup truck driven by Andrew Flanagan, 24, of Walters, went out of control on a country road five miles north and three and three-quarters miles east of Walters Sunday at 10:45 p.m., and turned onto its side. His wife, Peggy, and four-month old daughter, Cynthis Ann, were passengers. None of them were injured...Mrs. J. P. Eley, of Devol, has returned home from Fort Worth where she has been visiting a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shirley, who are parents of a new baby boy named Nathan Shawn.

She was formerly associated with the Security State Bank in Comanche...Kenneth K. McIlhaney, native of Temple, was elected President of the Union Bank and Trust Company in Oklahoma City, January 23...Miss Joey Parks, age six, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parks, of Walters, was crowned Our Miss Regal Princess Talent Queen for her age division in Oklahoma City, January 19...Douglas and Linda Jones announce the birth of a daughter, Laura Louise, born January 20. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Moore, of Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. Preston Jones, of Comanche...Mrs. Geneva Hawkins will assume her new duties in the County Extension office, Clay Jones, County Extension Director, said Tuesday. She will fill the position held by Mrs. Teena Anderson until her taking a position in the County Clerk’s office.

Dillard H. Wallace, son of Mrs. Susie Wallace of Route 2, Temple, Okla., a patient at Oliver General hospital in Augusta, Georgia, since March 14, has been relieved from further treatment and placed on terminal leave, prior to reverting to an inactive army status on May 4. A member of the 37th Infantry Regiment, Wallace has served three years and five months in the army. Prior to going to the hospital there, he was hospitalized at the station hospital, Fort Benning, Ga...A. F. Belt has sold the Terminal Cafe to Odessa Simmons of Walters, who took charge of the business last weekend. Mrs. Belt is assisting with the cooking and Miss Opal Hayes remains as waitress.
