Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Cole (OK04) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which removes restrictions on the import and export of natural gas, as well as prohibits trade with a person or foreign nation under sanction or listed as a state sponsor of terrorism. This legislation comes after President Biden announced plans to pause all pending and future applications of liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminals.

“The Biden administration’s short-sighted decision to limit U.S. LNG exports is nothing more than a political move to placate environmentalists at the expense of the American people and our economic and national security. It will increase already skyrocketing energy costs on the ratepayers, and, at the same time, push our allies directly into the hands of Russia, Iran, and Communist China to keep their lights on and heat their homes,” said Congressman Cole. “I cannot, and will not, stand by and watch as this administration pushes this detrimental policy. The Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act will stop President Biden’s latest attempt at hampering the American energy industry, and I am proud to have voted in support of this legislation on the House floor today.”
