A wedding of interest was that of Miss Doris Speir and LeRoy J. Meyer, which occurred Christmas night at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Speir. Mr. Meyer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meyer, of Walters. He and Miss Speir are graduates of Walters high school. Mr. Meyer was for a period of years employed at the Quality Dry Goods Co. in Walters, but at the present time he is located at Olney, Ill., with a seismograph company... Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Geraldine Ward, daughter of Newt Ward, of Coalgate, and Leon Cain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seldon Cain, of the Soldier Valley community. The wedding took place in the parsonage of the Lawton Methodist church Wednesday evening. Both bride and groom graduated from Walters high school in 1935. Since early childhood Miss Ward has made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Daugherty, of Walters...A son, Robert Jerome, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hayes, of Temple, on December 22. Mrs. Hayes is the former Miss Verda Roland, of Walters...A daughter, Diana Marie, was born December 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Grimes, of Seminole.

A marriage license was issued to Donald V. Barta, 21, and Pat Davis, 22, both of Walters...Miss Ruthe Neaville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Neaville, Shamrock, Texas, became the bride of Billy Reece Owens, of Borger, Texas, on Saturday evening, December 14, in the First Christian church in Shamrock. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Owens, of Walters...Ted Southward, operator of Southward Welding Service and an active civic worker in the city, will serve as president of the Chamber of Commerce for the year 1964. Serving with him will be Worth Grigsby as vice president and Bud Longueville as treasurer.

Lockett, for two years manager of the Farmer’s Union Co-Op gin in Temple, submitted his resignation Monday night to the board of directors...Mrs. Bessie Cullum will be manager of Pauline’s Sportswear in Temple...Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Graham have donated 10 acres of land north of old Temple part on East Cache Creek west of Temple to the Boy Scouts of Temple as a permanent camping place.
