12th Ranked Blue Devils Extend Winning Streak to 9 Games

The Walters Blue Devils Varsity Baseball finished Week 5 of the Spring baseball season with road trips to Waurika and #18 Big Pasture. After winning both contests, Walters improved to 18-2 on the season and extended their winning streak to 9 games in a row.

In the win against Waurika, A big first inning was key to the 13-1 win against the Eagles with hits by Cash Thomas, Lance Martin, John Jones, Jermaine Chasenah, Jace Morgan, Tucker Teakell, and Maverick Cooke. The hot offensive start for Walters resulted in 7 runs at the top of the first inning. After a strong defensive stand by the Blue Devils, the offensive onslaught continued when Senior, Jermaine Chasenah doubled on a line drive into the left field. He would eventually score on a hard ground ball by Creed Shortt. In addition to a strong hitting display for the Blue Devils they tore up the base paths as well, totaling 7 stolen bases. Maverick Cooke led the team with 3 stolen bases, while Gage Sansome, Jermaine Chasenah, John Fremin, and Tucker Teakell each had a stolen base. Creed Shortt led the team with 4 RBIs. Martin, Jones, Chasenah, Morgan and Teakell each had 1 RBI.

Creed Shortt was credited with the win for the Blue Devils. The righthanded Sophomore pitched all 3 innings with 5 strikeouts, 0 walks, 3 hits and surrendering only 1 run to the Waurika Eagles.

The top 20 matchup against the Big Pasture Rangers started with a strong pitching battle between Junior Lane Tinsley and Junior Lance Martin, II. The game was tightly contested through 4 innings with Walters leading 2-1 until the Blue Devils opened it up in the 5th-7th innings and winning 12-1. Martin earned the win in the contest after pitching 6 innings, with 11 strikeouts, 2 walks, 4 hits, and only 1 run. Tinsley also tallied 11 strikeouts with 5 walks, 6 hits and 8 runs. Nolan Maler and Lawson McCullough came in relief of Tinsley. Maler pitched 1 and 1/3 innings with 3 strikeouts, 6 walks, 1 hit, and 4 runs.
