Viewing will begin at 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 with visitation from 5:00-6:00 pm that evening at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. The family will celebrate her life at a later date.

Dorothy Nixon (Landers) Gilley was born to Robert Stephen and Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Landers on July 20, 1944 in Lawton, OK and departed this life at Walters, OK on February 10, 2024 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Nixie Grew up in Lawton, OK, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1962. She attended Cameron College for a time but soon transferred to Oklahoma State University. She married David H. Gilley on June 25, 1966 in Lawton. After graduating from OSU in 1967, She and David moved to Houston. There she taught school for 2 years, then laid off for several years with the birth of their daughter, Shannon.

After 13 years in Houston, the family moved to Oklahoma City for 3 years before returning to Lawton. She helped her husband with his store, Gilley’s Mens Wear. Upon his passing She returned to St. Mary’s where she taught from 1992-2002 and then at Kids Academy from 2002-2007. Through the years she had completed her Master’s Degree at Cameron University.

Nixie was known as Gar by the grandkids and Gigi by the great grands. She loved spending time with her family and chasing the great grandkids. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, riding bikes, and loved her cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Landers, and her husband, David Gilley on April 12, 1990.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Tracy McNitt of Walters; 3 grandchildren, Jordan Padgett and Joe, Tylar McNitt and fiancé Kat, Triston McNitt and Logan all of Walters; 4 great grandchildren, Hendrix, Crue, Halen and Hinder Padgett; 2 sisters-in-law, LuWayne Irwin of Oklahoma City and Pat Gilley of Urbandale, IA; 7 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
