Oklahoma gardeners looking for herbs and succulents to plant in the garden should plan to attend the annual Herb and Succulent Festival at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University later this month.

What: A variety of herbs and succulents will be for sale. A free bounce house, mud kitchen and other fun, hands-on activities will also be available for children. In addition, Andrine Shufran, OSU Extension specialist and director of OSU’s Insect Adventure, will provide a selection of insects for viewing and learning purposes. Nature’s Vein Wildlife Rescue Oklahoma will offer two wildlife presentations during the festival. About 30 vendors plan to set up booths featuring everything from jewelry to local honey.

When and where: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 27, The Botanic Garden at OSU, 3300 W. 6th St., Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Why: Fresh herbs are a healthy way to add robust flavor to foods prepared at home. Herbs available for sale at the festival include parsley, basil, rosemary, thyme, mints and more. Succulents will include various cacti, Echeveria and sedum. OSU Extension experts, Master Gardeners and The Botanic Garden Ambassadors will be on hand to answer questions about growing herbs and succulents as well as gardening in general. Cash and checks are the accepted forms of payment.
