Toby Morris was appointed to the judgeship of the 21st judicial district for the Cotton-Comanche area by Gov. Marland June 1. While living in Walters before moving to Lawton, Morris served eight years as county clerk and county attorney...Mr. and Mrs. Fred Simmons, Walters, route 1, have a new son, Jack Allen, born Sunday, May 16...Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Neal are parents of a daughter, Betty Lavern, born Wednesday, May 19...C. O. Hooper received a serious foot injury Monday when he dropped a heavy iron bar on his foot...The basket ball court in the Walters highschool auditorium is beling extended 17 feet in length and the width increased slightly over six feet. The new dimensions will be 40 feet by 70 feet. The gas lines of the school are being replaced and improved. All the pipes are being placed on the outside of the building, and run from the outside direct to the heaters. New wiring has been installed in the school. The gas and electrical work is being done to comply with the state requirements influenced by the New London, Texas school disaster.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Postelwait, southeast of Randlett, was destroyed by a tornado Saturday night, except for the kitchen, which was left intact. The family had taken shelter in the storm cellar. Also destroyed were the homes of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Menz and Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Menz, one mile east and one-half mile south of Randlett. They also had taken shelter in the storm cellar...Miss Paula Wynn was named recently by members of the Walters high school chapter of FFA as chapter sweetheart for the coming year... Mr. and Mrs. Garland Petty, borger, Texas, have chosen the name Lisa Ann for their daughter born Friday, May 25. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Petty, Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bridges, Kansas City, Mo...Mary Linda Monson and Alvin D. Combs will be married June 5 in the Devol Baptist church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Monson, of Devol, while the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Combs, of Sentinel, Okla.

Rev. Diane Bywaters Landon will assume her duties as minister of First Christian church Sunday, June 6. She and her husband, John Landon, came here from Prairie Village, Kan. He will be an Assistant District Attorney in Comanche county...A marriage license was issued to Anthony Curtis DeFate, 21, and Nicole Ann Mejia, 18, both of Walters...Miss Kathleen A. Fincher and Ralph Wayne Hoodenpyle exchanged wedding vows May 15 in the First Baptist church in Walters. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fincher, of Lawton. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph G. Hoodenpyle, of Walters...A boy, Corey Brent, was born to Brent and Becky Copeland May 29 in Lawton. Maternal grandparents are Mrs. Twila Bentley and the late Bill Bentley. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Copeland, of Martin, Tenn.

Miss Mary Jo McIlhaney, daughter of Mrs. Pauline McIlhaney, is band drum major for the year, Richard Carey, director, said. Twirlers are Dian White, Billie Wood and Linda Knight...Lynn Clayton, a graduate of Temple high school last year has enrolled in Baylor University. This is the Alma Mater of both his father and mother. Lynn was licensed to preach the gospel by the local Baptist Church Wednesday night. He plans to be a foreign missionary.
