Marine Corps, formerly a resident of Devol, has been assigned to duty with the Marine detachment, American embassy, Peiping, China. Pvt. Eubanks is the son of Mr. J. P. Eubanks, Devol... George Mooney, Walters, was severely burned about noon Monday when he attempted to put out a fire which had started in a closet at his home. A match flame in a closet caught a dress afire, and the conflagration spread rapidly. His most severe burns were on his hands... Garland Slatton visited here this week enroute to Dallas where he is a member of the Stanley Graham’s International Midget cursus, which will have its world premier in Dallas on May 21. Garland was reared in Cotton county and his parents still live in Walters. He is the smallest elephant trainer in the world...One accident follows another, it would seen to Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Penwell of Randlett. On their way Sunday to Gentry, Mo., to attend the funeral of R. L. Judd, Mrs. Penwell’s sister’s husband, who was killed in an automobile accident, the couple were in a wreck near Kansas City, and are both in a hospital for treatment there.

Ron Minton and Betty Jo Washington were named best all-around senior boy and girl by the Walters high school faculty Monday morning... Wedding vows were solumnized for Evelyn Quaid and Tony Curwin Komah, both of Walters, in a ceremony read Monday, May 7, in Wichita Falls. The bride is employed as a beautician at Lena’s Beauty Shop and the groom is employed at Coombs Meat Company...Pvt. Fred M. Hooper, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Hooper, of Walters, completed recruit training April 26, at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He then reported to Camp Pendleton, Calif., for advanced combat training.

The bond issue which called for the governing board of Cotton County to issue $300,000 in negotiable coupon bonds for the purpose of constructing and equipping a new jail complex adjoining the courthouse passed Tuesday with a vote of 867 to 546...Miss Melinda Fielding and Jeffrey Penn were united in marriage Saturday, May 8, at the home of the groom. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fielding, of Temple. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. John A. Penn, Jr., of Walters... Kim Dwyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Dwyer, and Carrie Murphy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy, have been selected by the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 155 to represent Walters at Oklahoma Girls State... Marriage licenses were issued to: Lonnie Ray Neal, 19, of Burkburnett, and Deborah Lynn Nietfeldt, 17, of Devol; and Terry Lynn Manuel, 26, and Dora Ray McKinney, 23, both of Walters.

Miss LaRae Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Drury Bowers, Topeka, Kans., and formerly of Temple, became the bride of Maurice Peter Keezer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Keezer, Lincoln Park, N. J., Saturday, August 2, in the Country Club Methodist church, Kansas City, Mo. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. L. A. Wilson and the late Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Bowen, and niece of Mrs. Earl Cullum and Mrs. Roy Dolman...Miss Dixie Dikes, daughter of Mrs. Ruth Logsdon, Pueblo, Colo., won second place in the Miss Pueblo contest held recently. The contest was preliminary to Miss Colorado and Miss America contests. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Hensley, Temple, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dikes, Hastings.
