Carter was presented the Distinguished Woman Award for 1961 at a meeting Tuesday evening, sponsored by the Walters Jaycee Jaynes...Ray McCoy, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. McCoy, of Route 2, Walters, was chosen to be recipient of the Scabbard and Blade Award for 1962 as the bestdrilled sophomore in the military science department at Oklahoma State University...Janet Kay Boles will be valedictorian and Marilyn Bridges salutatorian when the senior class of Temple high school is presented at commencement exercises Thursday evening, May 15. Miss Boles is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stark Boles, of Route 1, Randlett, while Miss Bridges is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Bridges, of Hastings.

Miss Julie Wickham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wickham, was selected as alternate...This year’s Temple FFA Chapter Sweetheart is Miss Shawna Simpson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Speedy Simpson. Jodie Reece is the new Chapter president...Bob Keim, Walters mail carrier, was honored on his 70th birthday at the post office. He has been in the post office 36 years, 2 months and 11 days, and has no plans to retire. During this time he estimates he has walked 70,000 miles on his route, and has used only 10 days of sick leave. Fred Hooper, rural mail carrier, was honored for a million miles of safe driving. He has seen 29 years of postal service with no reported accidents.

Cooper, Rt. 2, Temple, recently completed eight weeks of basic combat training at Fort Carson, Colo.
