Appointment of Richard Yeilding, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Yeilding, Walters, now a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, to West Point, U. S. Army Academy, was announced this week...Harvey Landis, Jr., of Walters, will leave Friday for San Diego, Calif., where he will be stationed with the U. S. Navy... A marriage license was issued to B. F. Gore, 21, and Laone Goodridge, 18, both of Walters...Bill and Ruby Harris have purchased Webb’s Coffee Shop and re-named it The Yellow Canary...A new two-room native stone school building at Plainview will be dedicated there Thursday night...Miss Nina Mae Burns and Mr. Johnnie Kitchen were married Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church in Walters.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Philip Garrett are parents of a son, Philip Lance, born March 23. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Jones, of Lawton, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Garrett, of Walters, are the paternal grandparents...Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ferguson, of Morrison, have chosen the name Larry Joe for their son born March 23. The mother is the former Miss Carolyn Daniel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Daniel, of Walters. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ferguson, of Comanche, are the paternal grandparents...The 1960 Census of Housing counted 2,874 housing units in Cotton county according to a report by the Dept. of Commerce. Of this number 1,450 were in sound condition with all plumbing, 2,621 were occupied and 1,890 were owner-occupied. Median value of owner-occupied places was not listed, but is less than $5,000. Occupied by renters were 731 housing units, and $45 per month was the median gross rent of rented places.

Cheryl Cooper was crowned Miss Walters Saturday night at the annual Miss Walters Pageant. As her talent she sang “Matchmaker” from “Fiddler on the Roof.” Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Cooper. Runners-up were Resa Kinney, Sharla Shackelford...Shena Cooper was named Miss Altus Saturday night. Her talent presentation was a piano solo by Victor Herbert. Shena is 25 years old and the girls’ basketball coach at Snyder high school. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Cooper, of Walters...Donnie and Debbie Blackburn are the parents of a daughter, Courtney Diane, born April 3. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sides, of Walters. Paternal grandparents are Thelma Blackburn and G. C. Blackburn, of Anadarko. The Temple Tribune
