James Winchester, 44, died Saturday at a Chickasha hospital from injuries received Thursday night when a car which he was cranking in gear, ran over him. Winchester operated a filling station across the street from the highway maintenance building in Walters. His car had stalled near the railroad tracks. He was unable to throw himself clear when the vehicle’s motor started, and was dragged several yards and crushed beneath it...Otho Mooney, the “O” of the B. and O. Cash store at Temple, has taken an indefinite leave of absence with salary as manager of the largest business house in Cotton county. J. W. Brown, who came from Sears Roebuck’s Dallas store to the B. and O., will be the new manager...T. L. Elms is now the manager of the Tom Norman Station located 4 miles west of Temple or 6 miles south of Walters on the “Y”...Dr. F. D. Stalford moved into new office quarters over the Walters National bank this week, formerly occupied by Dr. G. W. Baker. Dr. Stalford’s office has been over the Calhoun grocery.

Marriage licenses were issued to: Leroy Stapp, 21, and Barbara Barbe, 18, both of Walters; and Loyd Fletcher, 23, Walters, and Martha Adams, 21, Randlett...Mrs. Mary Beck, operator of the Travelers Hotel in Temple, died of her burns Friday, following the fire which destroyed the hotel last Wednesday morning. Mr. Beck’s burns were not considered serious. They had operated the hotel for 38 years...Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Dowd Swanson, Walters, have chosen the name Crystal Ann for their daughter born January 8. The mother is the former Miss Katie Lou Blackwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Blackwell, Walters. Mrs. Dowd Swanson, Walters, is the paternal grandmother.

During a called meeting January 14, Temple Masonic Lodge No. 210 conferred an Entered Apprentice Degree upon Leslie Hines, Temple’s newest member. Cecil Cathey of Walters Lodge No. 530 conferred the degree, assisted by members of other area lodges...A Temple man, Charles Edward Brister, 41, escaped almost certain death Sunday when he was pulled from his burning pickup by a couple of unidentified Iowa men who happened upon the scene. The one vehicle accident happened 16 miles east of Randlett...Mike Flannagan, Walters attorney, was installed as president of the Walters Chamber of Commerce at the annual banquet Tuesday night.
