Marvin Armstrong, local variety store owner, was appointed Thursday to fill the vacancy on the city council by Mayor Paul Mershon and councilman C. O. Hooper, a day after W. B. Osborne, councilman, was committed by county officials to the state hospital at Ft. Supply for mental observation...Donations of old or obsolete grade school text books are being sought for the prison camp located northeast of Walters, for use by trusty prisoners who are stationed at the camp...Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cornelius, of Union Valley, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday, January 10. They came to the Big Pasture in 1907 from their home in Eastern Oklahoma...Gerald Ledbetter, of Childress, Texas, and Miss Inez Peck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Peck, of Walters, were married Sunday in the home of the bride’s parents...Mary Elizabeth was born December 23 to Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Pierce, of Pauls Valley. Mrs. Pierce is the former Miss Frances Brown, formerly of Walters.

Wedding vows were solemnized for Mrs. Lena Harris, of Walters, and Otis Splawn, of Burkburnett, were solemnized New Year’s Day in the Jan Lee Baptist church in Burkburnett. The bride owns and operates a beauty shop in Walters. The groom is a civilian employee at Sheppard Air Force Base...Wedding vowa were exchanged recently by Ada May Bowles and Joe Kerr, both of Randlett, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Barber in Wilburton...Mr. and Mrs. Aldean Postlewait and twin daughters arrived in Randlett from Bermuda, where he has been stationed, for a visit with his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. A. R. Postlewait. After a visit wih her mother, Mrs. Thelma Hooper, of Abilene, he will enter OSU at Stillwater.Miss Janet Rhodes, daughter of Mrs. Ollie Rhodes, became the bride of Lewis Stine, son of Mrs. Betty Stine, all of Walters, in an exchange of vows read in the Emerson Baptist church, Saturday, December 14.

Mr. and Mrs. John Magee, long time residents of Temple, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, April 10. The Magees moved to Temple from Burkburnett in the fall of 1912...Miss Betty Charlene Wooten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Wooten, became the bride of Robert Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Jones, in a ceremony Saturday, April 16, in the home of the bridegroom’s parents...At the last meeting of the Temple Rainbow Assembly, Miss Carol Beth Thompson was elected worthy advisor for the ensuing term. Other officers elected were Miss Ruth McGee, worthy associate advisor; Miss Johnette Helms, charity; Miss Karen Bone, hope; Miss Cecelia Bentley, faith.
