The Walters Herald June 23, 1938 Miss Peggy Jo Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Wilson, was taken to Rochester, Minn., the first of the week where she will undergo a complete observation in the Mayo Clinic there. Peggy Jo’s health has not been satisfactory for the past several months...George Roller, Max McNees and Charles High were encored again and again at the regular weekly meeting of the Rotary club Thursday, as they presented old time “fiddle music.” Joffre Stephens, Oklahoma University student, also received enthusiastic applause for his presentation of an original vocal and piano composition.

This number should be used on all correspondence and packages to speed deliveries and reduce the chance of mis-sent mail...Dale A. Smith, local LP Gas dealer, slapped at an object in the water at Pennington Creek near Tishomingo Saturday evening at 8:30 o’clock, and wound up in a hospital for treatment of a bit on the thumb from a cotton mouth water moccasin...Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Ketels, of Hulen, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an open house in the home of their daughter, Mrs. C. F. Schneeberger, at Hulen, on Sunday, June 16. Hosts were Mrs. Schneeberger and their other daughter, Mrs. Bill McCoy. Mr. and Mrs. Ketels were married Sunday, June 15, 1913, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones... Major Monzell J. Phipps, of Walters, has retired from the United States Air Force after more than 20 years of active service. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal for flying the hump from India into China in 1943. He flew 8,167 hours as a pilot with the Military Air Transport Service. The major, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Phipps, of Walters, is a graduate of Walters high school and has a B. S. degree in business administration from Ohio State University.
