Mr. and Mrs. Floyd L. Jackson announced today they would return to Walters about August 16 to establish permanent residence. Jackson, former Cotton county attorney, who has been practicing law at Kilgore, Texas, for the past year, will open his office in Walters at that time... Three county farm homes were reported to have been totally destroyed within the last week by fire. Last Saturday night, George W. Davis and family were returning from a meeting at the Union Valley school house to find their home leveled by fire. The Jeff Graham home near Temple, and Mano Brown’s home located on the highway east of Walters were also demolished by flames... Clifton Mudd, Salem, Ore., former Walters rseident and now state comptroller of Oregon, visited here this week. Mudd finished high school here in 1916 and was married to Floy Cannon, daughter of Mrs. Guy Rich. He left Walters 18 years ago.

Mrs. J. W. Jackson was feted by members of her family at a picnic dinner Sunday in Sultan park. The event was held in celebration of her 80th birthday which she marked Tuesday, July 24...The fire department made a run tothe farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherb Fisk, northeast of Walters, just before 1 o’clock Sunday morning, when a barn caught afire from undetermined causes and burned, along with its contents. Mr. and Mrs. Fisk were attending church services at Walters when the fire alarm was sounded.

Wedding vows were exchanged by Ruby Joyce Johnson and Kevin Blane Gammill, July 10, in the home of the groom’s parents in the Ahpeatone community...Work is continuing on the construction of new classroom in the area that was formerly the open patio space of the Walters High school... Bucky Calfy, three year letterman of Walters High school has been selected for the 1981-82 Oklahoma Football Coaches Association All-State team. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Buck Calfy, of Walters.

Howard L. Douglass, chief gunner’s mate, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Douglass, of Temple, is serving aboard the escort destroyer, USS Sproston, operating out of his home port at Pearl Harbor...Temple volunteer firemen, all nine of them, received a munificent monthly salary increase of 25 percent, Mayor David Richardson said. Enacted by the board of trustees, the firemen will now receive $5 per month instead of $4 as in the past...Ernest A. Ledford, construction apprentice, Construction Battalion, USN, and Timkmy L. Ledford, construction apprentice, Construction Battalion, USN, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Ledford, Route 1, Temple, are serving at the naval auxiliary air station, Kingsville, Texas.
