A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Durbin on April 18...Jay Phipps, former commander of the local American Legion post and more recently a guard at the McAlester state penitentiary, this week became city policeman after a surprise move by the city commissioners. Phipps replaced D. W. Wade, veteran Walters peace officer, and Henry Jones, policeman for more than two years. James Ballard, fire chief, will assist with law enforcement in cases of emergency and special occasions...Miss Evelyn Patterson, and Arthur C. Gover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gover, who reside 10 miles southeast of Temple, were married Saturday, April 8, in the Methodist parsonage in Walters. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Patterson of the Stroud community near Temple.

Mr. and Mrs. William Ricketts, of Lawton, announce the arrival of a son born Sunday, April 12. He has been named Kavin Todd. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Montgomery, of Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Ricketts, of Linville, Indiana... Walters Blue Devils emerged winners of the Southern Five field and track meet staged Saturday at Duncan, scoring 52 points to 48 for Marlow, 41 for Velma-Alma, Comanche 20, and Waurika 9. The winners, coached by Clint Ponder, took five first places in the meet, including three firsts by Bobby Preston, Bob Witt (junior) had a first and the mile relay team of Walters scampered to a 3.57.3 mark and a first place...Tracy Daugherty, of Walters, has been honored by inclusion in Who’s Who in Oklahoma, 1964...An unprecedented four delegates to Boys State from Walters American Legion post were named Tuesday, by Eldon Dalrymple, post commander. They are: David Minton, Larry Golden, Bobby Preston and Roger Cromwell.

Lisa and Ronnie Ables announce the birth of their daughter, Heather LeAnn, born Sunday, April 8th. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Best, of Walters. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ables, also of Walters...J. T. Stauffer, of Walters, was installed April 3rd as District Deputy Grand Master of District 34B Masonic Grand Lodge of Oklahoma. J. T., who is retired from Cotton Electric Co-op has been a Mason since 1956 and now holds a 32nd degree in the organization...Walters Bank and Trust is observing its 50th year of service to the community Friday, April 13, with an open house. Through the years, ownership of the bank, as well as the name have changed. Walters National Bank became the Bank of Walters and later was changed to the present Walters Bank and Trust Co. C. C. and B. R. Stephens, brothers, originally owned the bank, They sold it to John R. Reynolds and a group of local men, and then was purchased by Elmer Graham.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Keith Moorman, Buena Park, Calif., on July 23. He has been named William Keith II. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ben Encineas, Compton, Calif. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bill Moorman, Temple...A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard R. Rod Roderick on Wednesday, July 27, at the Comanche hospital. She has been named Reecea Ann. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Homer Robinson. Mr. Roderick will also receive a master of teaching degree from Southeastern State College at the end of the summer term.
