Paul Mershon, local druggist, who was elected as commissioner in the last city election, was named mayor of Walters at a meeting of the city commissioners last week... Ernest Pickett was injured Sunday while loading oil field equipment near Stringtown, and was taken to a hospital in Duncan. A crowbar was thrown into his face leaving cuts and a crushed cheek bone...Margaret Williams, senior class candidate, was crowned high school football queen here Tuesday night. Miss Williams was crowned by Sammie Stephens, Blue Devil football captain...The New Walters Hatchery will open January 1 in the old Reuben Redden Grocery space in the Masonic building with Otis Redford as manager...Work of moving the stock of the B. and C. Grocery and Market into the new building on North Broadway will begin Thursday night, Henley Berendzen, manager, announced Wednesday. The building has been entirely remodeled and redecorated...E. G. Etzold, of Temple, who has been receiving treatment in a Lawton hospital for a gunshot wound in the foot, is expected to be dismissed from the hospital soon. The accident occurred about two weeks ago while Mr. Etzold was hunting squirrels on his farm southwest of Temple.

After 13 years of outstanding work as cubmaster and pack mother for the Walters Cub Scout operation, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wetzel have tendered their resignation from this work...Mr. and Mrs. James Kinder, Jr., Route 2, Walters, have selected the name Kevin Wade for their son born Monday, November 11. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leo Zweiacker and Mr. and Mrs. James Kinder, all of Union Valley community...Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Martin, Lawton, have chosen the name Dona Elaine for their daughter born November 5. Grandparents are Mrs. Alice Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Nichols, all of Walters.

Miller, of Randlett, will honor their parents with a reception to celebrate their Fiftieth Wedding anniversary Saturday, November 26, in the Community Building in Randlett. Lee Miller and the former Iva May Austin were married November 26, 1933, in Walters...The children of E. D. and Blanche Gresham will host a reception in honor of their Fiftieth Wedding anniversary Sunday, November 27, in the Union Valley Baptist church reception hall. Birdie Blanche Irvin and E. D. Gresham were married November 25, 1933...A son, Jason Christopher, was born to Tom and Linda Wilkes, of Lawton, November 7. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Horace Fowler, Jr. Paternal grandmother is Essie Wilkes, of Walters.

Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Viola Parkey Stevens, Orange City, Fla...Mr. and Mrs. Gene McCartney, Evansville, Ind., have adopted a baby boy born February 12. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Bud Wiser, Temple...Woody’s Cash grocery is set for formal opening Saturday, Woodrow O. Wilson, owner, said. The grocery store is located at 305 E. Central, also the location of Woody’s cafe.
