Loy Wilson, Hulen principal, was elected Walters grade school principal to succeed V. B. Marshall, whose elevation to the position of high school principal will be effective this fall. Walter Holt, junior high school principal, who has been a member of the Walters faculty for five years, has resigned his position here...Dan Clayton Adkins has been selected as valedictorian of the 1938 Walters senior class. Mary Ellen Morrison is the salutatorian...Miss Louise Reece and Clyde Sylvester were married at the First Christian church pargonage, and Miss Margaret Reece and Frederick Sylvester were married in Temple by Osa Wilson, justice of the peace, both on May 14. The Reece sisters are daughter of Mrs. Charlie Reece, of Essaquanahdale, and Clyde and Frederick Sylvester are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sylvester, of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Martin are parents of a daughter, Bonnie Lon, born April 15...Mr. and Mrs. Jack Petty, of Temple, are parents of a son born May 17.

A committee of former county teachers of the year selected J. P. Eley, of Big Pasture school, to represent the county as Teacher of the Year at the state fair in September. Mr. Eley is elementary principal and teacher and has 34 years experience in the teaching field, and came to Big Pasture from Devol where he was principal at the time Randlett, Devol and Union Valley consolidated into the one big high school district... Joe Ferguson, vocational agriculture instructor at Morrison for two years, has been employed in the same capacity in the Walters high school system... Keith Huckaby will give the valedictory address at the Walters Commencement for the 52 members of the 1963 class. Judy Crouch will give the salutatory address...Almost a year ago members of the newly organized county-wide rodeo and riding organization, the Cotton County Round-up Club, set the ball rolling to provide a top-notch arena to replace the one which was virtually wiped out by a tornado some three years ago. The new grandstand and area are nearing completion in time for the scheduled rodeo in mid-July. Max Phillips is the club president...Miss Charlotte Ruth Lewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lewis, of Temple, and Bruce Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams, Walters, exchanged wedding vows Saturday, May 4, in the Walters First Baptist Church.

Darlene Sellars, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gomer High, of Walters, has recently been added to the staff of Midwest City Memorial Hospital as the hospital’s first chaplain. Jay Spann, four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Spann, miraculously escaped with only bruises and gravel burns after being run over by his parent’s car Monday afternoon in a freak accident. Mrs. Spann had taken her daughter, Cindy, to the Temple Clinic and had left Jay alone in the car parked in front. He somehow managed to start the car. It was in reverse gear. He either fell or jumped from the circularly moving car and one of the vehicle’s wheels passed over his body from head to thighs and then crossed over his legs..Mr. and Mrs. David Grantham, Mountain Park, announce the wedding of their daughter, Deanne, to Dan Durrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Durrett, Temple. The wedding will be an event of Friday, August 28 at the Holy City chapel in the Wichita Mountains.
