Chuck Stevenson, local agent for the Oklahoma Transportation Company, last week was appointed agent for the Mistletoe Express and the Oklahoma Publishing Company...Completed for temporary use January 24, the new Walters hospital will be formally opened around June 1. The hospital which is complete except for the basement will contain 34 rooms and will represent an investment of $45,000. Resident physicians and surgeons at the hospital are Dr. J. M. Thompson, who has been here 10 years operating the Thompson hospital, and Dr. H. A. Calvert. The nursing staff is composed of Mrs. Stella Thompson, head nurse, Mrs. M. Audrain, Mrs. L. Darter and Miss Helen Duncan... The marriage of Miss Christine Merriott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Merriott, to Kenneth LaFon, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. LaFon, of Woodward, was held Easter morning at 8 o’clock in the First Christian church...Mr. and Mrs. Alva Parks, of the West Cache community, are the parents of a baby daughter, born April 11. She will be called Mary Faye. Mrs. Parks is the former Miss Violet Kelley...Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hoodenpyle, of the Roosevelt community, are the parents of twin boys born Friday, April 15...E. & E. Cream & Produce Station, located first door south of Cotton Co. Motor Co., is now open for business with E. English, proprietor.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Blair, Walters, were honored with a surprise open house event at their home in the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary, April 12...Mr. and Mrs. Bill Penn, Hereford, Texas, are parents of a daughter born April 11, and named Allison Ann. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John A. Penn, Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Suggs, of Lawton...A marriage license was issued to C. E. Holman, 8e, and Nora L. Spence, 78, both of Walters...The state highway department opened the new million dollar bridge over Red river southwest of Randlett, to traffic Friday...Cast for the senior play, “Bull in the China Shop,” to be presented Tuesday, May 14, was announced this week by Mrs. Jack Lee, high school speech instructor. The cast included Judy Crouch, Jackie Ann Witt, Rose May Harris, Sally Jo Roberts, Linda Kerr, Carolyn Wiley, Sharon Milwood, Charles Daniel, Billy Privett, Robert Robertson, Kenny Sprouse and Kenny White. Norma Teakell and Diana Mowles are student directors, and Bobby Finchum is stage manager.

The 13th annual Miss Walters Pageant was held Saturday night at the high school auditorium, with Miss Jennifer Lemons crowned Miss Walters. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bob Lemons. First runner-up was Kim Dwyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dwyer, and Kathy Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fox, was named second runner-up...It is now official, Walters native and former Texas basketball coach, Abe Lemons, will be returning to the state, as the head coach at the school where he began his career, as head coach at Oklahoma City University, where he was from 1955 to 1973, where he had a 309-181 record. He has been at the University of Texas for the last seven years, the first six as head basketball coach...Miss Kim Dwyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dwyer, has been selected as Valedictorian of the Walters senior class. Co-Salutatorians are Ann Varner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gail Varner, and Eddie Smart, son of Mrs. June Smart and the late Harvey Smart.

Floyd A. Vache, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Vache, Temple, has been assigned to Graham Air Force base at Marianna, Fla., for pilot training. He recently graduated from the USAF pre-flight school at Lackland AFB, Texas...Glen A. Neal has been employed as mathematics instructor in the Temple school system... Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Guerry will observe their golden wedding anniversary with an open house in their home Sunday.
