The 1937 Southwest Turkey Carnival opened today in Walters. This is a three day event with a turkey dinner, exhibition and judging of turkeys, a dance each night, a Turkey Queen contest, Carnival Queen Parade, Turkey bingo, turkey drive along Broadway, Turkey trap shoot, fireworks display at Sultan Bowl during football game...Miss Blanche Parrish, of Lawton, became the bride of Leonard Luke, of Walters, Saturday night...A group of girls met at the home of Hettie Jo Sargent Wednesday afternoon and organized a Sub Deb club. Motto selected by the group was: “Further Fun.” Officers elected were: Hettie Jo Sargent, president; Gloria Truth Wade, secretary- treasurer; Lois West, reporter; Frieda Beetch, pianist; Winona Phillips, chairman of the social committee; and Josephine Stephens, chairman of decorations. Other members present included Geneva Guest, Inez Peck and Elizabeth Agler.

The Walters Herald Nov. 1, 1962 Lack of interest on the part of the young people of Walters has been given as the reason for closing Teen Town last Saturday night...Arville Lacefield will be the new manager and Reuben Bowers will be the parts and service manager for S & P Ford Sales at 201 S. Broadway...A marriage license was issued to Ronnie Gene Cooper, 19, and Sandra Jo Lewis, 18, both of Temple...Herbert W. Parks, of Temple, has been promoted to first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He is an aircraft navigator and an administrative officer. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Parks, of Temple.

The Walters Herald Nov. 4, 1982 The Hubert Howard family lost all of their belongings in a fire Saturday, October 30, that destroyed the home in which they were residing...Robert Claude and Rae Ann Spurlock annoounce the birth of a baby girl, Ashley Rae, born October 22. Paternal grandparents are Robert and Ruth Spurlock, of Temple. Maternal grandparents are Mrs. Freda Mulhall, of Oklahoma City, and Paul Maughan, of Rogers, Ark...Terry and Diana Simpson announce the birth of a baby girl, Taryn Leigh, born October 30. Maternal grandparents are Gay and Ocie Sharpe, of Pasadena, Tex. Paternal grandparents are Gattie and Laverne Haining, of Snyder, Okla.

The Temple Tribune Feb. 12, 1959 Miss Wilda Witt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sparlin Witt, and Max Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Anderson, Randlett, have established a residence at Hopkinsville, Kentucky following their marriage in the Presbyterian church of Temple...The wedding of Launita Wright and Freddie Kindred will be an event of Friday night, February 13, at the Temple Revival Center. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright of Temple.
