This coming Sunday is Father’s Day! I would encourage you to go see him or give him a call. If he is no longer with you, then I know you will remember him.

Father’s Day probably wouldn’t exist if the greeting card business didn’t promote it, but it is only right that we say thank you to Dad!!!

And being a dad myself, I realize how our children truly are a special gift God has given us.

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them… Ps.127:3-5 (nasb) In churches I have pastored, I have reminded folks about our duties as a Pa and particularly concerning our teenage daughters that a boy might want to date.

I am not saying that these rules are scriptural, but they do seem as if they would be quite effective. Here are just a couple of ‘em, original author unknown.

* If you pull into my driveway and honk your horn, you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking up my daughter.

* I noticed you like wearin’ your trousers so loose they’re about to fall off your hips. If you show up that way, I won’t object. But just to make sure they stay on while with my daughter, I’ll take my air powered roofing stapler and fasten your trousers securely about your waist.

*I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry. (one of my favorites) It gets worse! Yes, there are ten of them. No, I will not be sharing the rest later. I have a feeling I shared too much already! It’s a good thing my space is limited.

In Luke 8 down about verse 40, Jesus had been casting demons out of a man and into a bunch of swine. All cool stuff, but Jesus returns and Jarius, an official of the synagogue, was desperate to get his daughter to Jesus for she was dying. And while trying to reach Jesus, Jarius was informed that his daughter had died. Jesus heard this and told Jarius not to be scared. Jesus went to their house and called out for the girl. And the dead girl got up. I reckon that would make you swallow your false teeth. Well, not really, but they were amazed!

Jarius, the Dad, came to Jesus and sought out for his daughter to encounter Jesus! That’s amazing! Jarius sought out for his daughter to encounter Jesus. Yep, Dad led his daughter to Christ.

Now that might not seem like a lot but, wow, what a difference it made in the future of that family. Especially the girl. She now had life in Christ!

There are a lot of problem Dads out there, what with deadbeats, abusive fathers, and the like.

And it is serious stuff, but the greatest abuse is for a dad to fail to lead his family to Jesus!

Dad, come to Jesus and He won’t just change you, He’ll bring about change in your entire family! Jairus needed more than his religion, he needed Jesus. And Jairus invited Jesus to come into his home. Dads, invite Jesus over to your place! It will make an eternal difference.

Choose Jesus, choose life! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! Tell others! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST!

And y’all KEEP PRAYIN’ for RAIN! Amen.
