Jay Smith, Walters superintendent, will leave the local school system November 30 after spending more than three years at its head to accept a position as sales manager with an Oklahoma City publishing house. Vonden Marshall, present high school principal who was elevated this year from the grade principal’s job, will fill out Smith’s unexpired term... As the blue and white clad band members march on prade they will have a new note to be proud of--better harmony. Three melophones will be a gift of the P.T.A., whose members voted to buy them with the association’s share of the carnival proceeds... Sylvester Gilliam has accepted a position as a repairman in the shop of Joe Wood, local jeweler...Miss Ethel Gammill, Devol entry, won the honor of reigning during the Turkey Day Carnival in Walters last week. Miss Mozelle Maier, Ahpeatone; Bertha Belle Hoodenpyle, Roosevelt; and Helen Laminack, Rabbit Creek, were selected as queen attendants. Parade float winners were Fairview 217, Pleasant Valley 205 and South Mountain View, oneroom schools; Gregg, Pecan Grove 221 and Lone Star 77, two-room schools; Ahpeatone, Union Valley and Randlett, consolidated schools. Ahpeatone won in marching. Indian pageant winners for best dressed man were Oliver Pomoceah, first; Tiseyo, second; and Lloyd Heminohey, third, while Mrs. Tissywuqua, Mrs. Tomah and Mrs. Ione Ahko placed in order in the women’s contest. Indian children winning were Norma Ann Tahsuda, Kenneth Yackies and Kelley Pomoceah. Helen McGee won the cowgirl prize, and Henry Coker and Nelson Benson placed first and second as cowboys. Troy Eggleston and Billy Wiley rode the best decorated bicycles.

Elaine Sue Gellner, high school junior, was named football queen at Big Pasture at the Rangers homecoming game Friday night. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Gellner...A marriage license was issued to Daryl Phillip Clemmer, 27, Grandfield, and Linda Lee Miller, 20, Randlett...Second elevator blaze in four months caused total loss to a 23-year-old storage structure at Walters Cooperative Elevator Assn. located on the northwest edge of Walters Saturday night...Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stauffer, Walters, have chosen the name Art Ronald for their son born Saturday, November 9. The new mother is the former Artie Jo Reynolds, daughter of Mrs. Walt Campbell, of Lawton. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Stauffer, of Elgin. Maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Otis and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Reynolds, all of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Lonzo Moran, Walters, were honored with a family dinner at their home Sunday, November 3, in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary.

Double ring vows were exchanged on Saturday, November 5, by Shelly Ann Hayes, of Edmond, and Clinton Dale Kerr, of Oklahoma City, in the Bethel Congregational church in Edmond. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. David Hayes, of Edmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Kerr, of Chattanooga... Tomi Elizabeth Nickerson, of Walters, and William Terral Rather, of Comanche, were married Saturday, November 5, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvis Wilson, grandparents of the groom. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nickerson, of Walters. The groom is the son of Patty Higgenbotham, of Comanche, and the late Harold Rather...A marriage license was issued to Leonard Ray Newsom, 31, of Perryton, Texas, and Debra Jean Tomah, 24, of Walters... Wright’s Muffler Shop, 102 W. California, is now under new management.

Mullins, Temple student at the University of Oklahoma, has been elected secretary of the Petroleum Engineers club. Mullins, son of Mrs. Velma Mullins, is a senior in the college of engineering.
