Moving his stock of merchandise here from Duncan, Cleve Terry will open the Outlet Store Saturday in the Clint Herring Dry Goods location on South Broadway. Terry formerly operated a store in the Doran building, just south of the Merit Dry Goods company...Rev. J. T. McBride, former circulation manager for The Walters Herald, this week was appointed agent for the Mistletoe Express and Oklahoma Publishing Company agency here. McBride succeeds Joe Pinkerton at the agent’s position...The news of the secret marriage of Miss Bonnie Rogers and L. D. Payne was announced this week. The wedding took place in Marietta on November 11, 1937. Mrs. Rogers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Rogers, of Walters, and is a student in Walters high school. Mr. Payne, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Payne, of Shamrock, Texas, also attended high school in Walters. They will make their home in Walters...The marriage of Miss Ruby Long, of Lockney, Texas, formerly of Walters, to Ralph Simmons, took place Saturday, March 12, at Duncan. Mr. Simmons is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Simmons, of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Howard Farley, of Ahpeatone community, announce the arrival of a son, Howard Leon, born Saturday. Mrs. Farley was formerly Miss Ruby Lee Wyatt.

Walters National Guard unit is due to get another name effective April 1. It will be changed from Troop B, 2nd Recon Squadron, 245th Armor to Troop B, 1st Squadron, 145th Cavalry... Miss Linda Kerr, Walters high school senior, who was recently chosen as Unit Queen for Troop B, 2nd Recon Squadron of 245th Armor, the Walters National Guard unit, was officially recognized as Organizational Queen for the squadron Monday evening at ceremonies in the National Guard armory at Lawton...Leon Meyer, of Walters, was named caretaker of the city lake properties effective April 1. Meyer will succeed Willis Mills, who resigned. Meyer will serve as caretaker at the lake and the golf course located east of the lake, of which he has been caretaker for years.

Mrs. Charles (Judy) Reece has been appointed to assume the duties of Walters City Clerk April 1, upon the retirement of Helen Thurman. Mrs. Reece is the daughter of Aaron and Lawannah Rash. She was employed by the city on January 16, 1978 as a clerk and also handled duties with the Walters Cemetery Association...Joe Ashbaker, of Pawnee, will be taking over management of the Farmers Elevator at Temple, effective April 1, replacing Tiny Spurlock, who resigned...It’s a boy, Scott Michael, for Mr. and Mrs. Mike Moore, of Lawton, born March 2. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith, and great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Barnett and Mrs. Ruth Smith, all of Temple. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Moore, of Lawton.

A two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Rollins is thought to have suffered a brain concussion in a fall last week from an upstairs apartment. The child’s father said that the boy had wandered out of an upstairs apartment and fell, striking an air conditioner on the lower floor and then striking his head on some steps. He is hospitalized at Wichita Falls...Miss LaRue Collins and Eugene Burton, Jr., pledged their nuptial vows Saturday, June 6 in the First Baptist church of Temple. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Collins, Jr., while the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Burton, all of Temple.
