When a monoplane alights at the local airport at 1:40 Saturday afternoon, leaves a cargo of airmail and takes off again after a 20-minute stop with Walters’ outgoing cargo of airmail, the first direct airmail service in the history of the town will have been completed. Ceremonies at the airport will include introduction of Bob Allen, pilot, formerly of Walters, music by the Walters high school band, and the exchange of mail packages by Mack Williams, Walters postmaster, and Allen. Walters’ first airmail service will come as a result of the state-wide airmail feeder demonstration which includes the flying of four feeder routes over the state including 31 cities... Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Fowler, Walters route 4, are parents of a daughter, Nita Maurine, born on March 2...A daughter, Carolyn Jean, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Crowley... Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Azeltine are the parents of a baby girl, Betty Sue, born March 7...Double funeral services were conducted for James O. Thompson, 85-year-old pioneer resident and his son, James William Thompson, 49, both of the Pioneer community, Sunday afternoon in the Temple Methodist church. The elder Thompson died Thursday in Duncan and his son died of pneumonia Saturday in a Duncan hospital.

Steve Cain, Walters senior, was the only member of the Blue Devil basketball team to place on the 10 member all-Southern Five conference team selected by the coaches last week at a meeing in Lawton...Bobby Preston, Walters high school athlete, competed in the Ft. Worth recreational track meet last Friday and managed a three-way tie for first place in the high jump at six feet and one inch...The Temple senior class will present “Pillow Talk” March 12 in the high school auditorium. Jim Loftin is cast in the dual role of a playboy song writer and a naive Texan. Interior decorator Jan Morrow, is played by Vicki Rodolph...James Bradford as high school principal, Billy D. Schumpert as junior high school principal, and Mrs. Beatrice Taylor as elementary school principal were all re-employed for the next term by the Walters board of education.

Three local residents, all former Miss Walters Pageant contestants will be involved in state pageants in the near future. Cheryl Cooper, Miss Walters 1982, has entered the Miss Warr Acres Pageant which will be held Saturday night. Dixie Cooper has entered the Queen of the West Pageant, which will be staged Saturday, March 19, in Elk City. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Cooper. Dixie and Laura Kinney, Miss Walters, 1978, have been selected to compete in the Miss OSU Pageant. Laura is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kinney.

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Mullins have purchased Glenn’s Cafe from Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Glenn, who had purchased it about two weeks ago from Mr. and Mrs. Grady Tucker... The congregation of the First Baptist church have called a new pastor. Rev. Fred Wollard, for three and a half years pastor of the Baptist church at Morris, Okla., and his wife and their two children, will arrive in Temple June 24...Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Bryant left Wednesday for Ranger, Texas, where Bryant will become Church of Christ preacher. He has served the local Church of Christ the past several years.
