Miss Mildred Greer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Greer, of Walters, became the bride of Luther Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Wilson, also of this city, Saturday afternoon at the home of Rev. Harvey Huddleston, pastor of the Assembly of God church...Allocation of $230,000 to build 234 miles of rural electrification lines in Cotton Stephens, Comanche and Jefferson counties was made by REA officials in Washington this week. Of the 234 miles of line set up for construction, approximately 90 will be constructed in Cotton county. Establishment of a cooperative office in Walters is expected within a week or two. Charles Cox, superintendent, was appointed by the local board of directors. Electricity may be available to consumers in the next five months, depending on how rapidly the houses are wired...A girl was born February 13, to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gandy, who reside on Temple route 2...A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shelley on February 12.

Army Sgt. Kelver K. Dowlen, whose wife, Shirley, lives on Rt. 2, Comanche, was assigned to the 25th Chemical Company in Korea Feb. 3 as an instructor. Sergeant Dowlen entered the army in January 1953. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Klever K. Dowlen, who live on Rt. 4, Walters... Four places of business in Walters were burglarized Thursday night or eaerly Friday morning and officers are searching for two men and a woman they belive are responsible for the costly series. Only one of the places looted reported no loss. Coombs Meat Co. has papers strewn around, apparently looking for money. At the Claiborne store the loss was wearing apparel, while in the finance company the loss consisted of $5,900 in savings bonds, and cash, which Henry Claiborne, said amounted to $1,480. Also taking a cash and merchandise loss was Walters Cooperative Elevator.

Col. Richard D. Smith, Air Force Logistics Command deputy chief of staff for contracting and manufacturing, has been nominated by the President for promotion to Brigadier General. A native of Walters, Col. Smith graduated from Walters high school in 1956 and achieved a bachelor’s degree from the Air Force Academy in 1961, and holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in business administration from the University of Oklahoma. Col. Smith is the son of Jay and Sybil Smith, of Walters, and the grandson of pioneer county residents, Sam and Maggie Dowlen...Otis Lee Norton was working with Elmer Long the afternoon of February 8th, levelling a house trailer in the 400 block of North Locust street in Temple, when one of the jacks slipped, pinning Long to the ground. Long’s speed in securing help from a number of men nearby resulted in some 15 men with heavy jacking equipment and long pry leverages being on the spot. Within 15 minutes he was on his way in an ambulance to Wichita Falls. After X-rays for internal injuries found none, he was released and advised to take 14 days bed rest.

Donnie Rodolph, son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Rodolph, leaves Friday to participate in the annual Boys State on the University of Oklahoma campus. He is sponsored by the Taylor-Hunt post of the American Legion...Lt. and Mrs. Harold W. Powell, Heilbron, Germany, are parents of a daughter, Beth Ann, born at the U. S. Army hospital. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lewis, Temple. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Powell, Wichita Falls...Dan Durrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed P. Durrett, Friday received his bachelor of science degree from Southwestern State College, and left Monday for Philadelphia where he will be employed by the Philco Electronics Corp...Miss Dorothy Carroll became the bride of Ken Jones in Wichita Falls Friday, May 20. The bride, a 1960 graduate of Temple high school, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Carroll, Dallas. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Jones, Temple.
