Summer construction work on the buildings occupied by the Walters school system neared the halfway mark this week as considerable alterations were being made previous to the opening of the school term. The major change consists of the transfer of the high school classrooms to the building formerly occupied by the first to sixth grades, bordering South Broadway, with the grade school to occupy the three story building. The playgrounds for the lower grades will now be nearer their class rooms. Two new classrooms are being added between the two buildings to house the highschool band and vocational agriculture room. The one story building on Broadway was erected in 1924 to erase the inconvenience that was acute when the lower gades were forced to attend school in what was known among students and townspeople as the “chickenhouse.”..The Walters Skeet club was well represented at the 39th annual state trap shoot held in Blackwell last Saturday when J. P. Morrison captured the class D and also the veteran state titles in cracking 195 out of 200 shots. Mr. Morrison, age 71, residing near Temple, was the oldest man ever to win the state crown and also record such a high ranking score in comparison with other classes of high recognition.
