Miss Phyllis Adair was united in marriage to Richard Larry Rose, Monday evening, May 23, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Adair, of Walters. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rose, of Lawton...O. H. Jenkins, who was in the mattress business here in 1928 and 1929, returned to establish the Jenks Mattress company at the south end of the pavement on Broadway street...Storm damage in the Fairview 223 school district was reported. The roof was partly taken from Louie Allgood’s home, a corner of the roof lifted from T. E. Wilson’s house. Their chicken house was demolished. The Anderson house across the road from the Wilson home had the roof taken off and deposited on the ground to one side and the building demolished. No one was hurt. E. D. Gresham lost his chicken house and granary. Some people received a good drenching, clothes and all, trying to get to their cellars...Leon Taunah, outstanding 4-H club Indian boy fom Essaquanahdale, performed the duty of leading the 4-H club ritual well at the southwest training and judging school at Lawton last week. With the chickens he raised for a club project, Leon won a first prize at the State Indian Expositioni at Anadarko, a first prize at the Cotton County fair, grand champion of the county fair and second in the open class.

Mrs. Lucille Johnson will retire from the postal service Friday, May 31, after a tour of duty of 42 years and five months--all in the Walters post office. Mrs. Johnson was Miss Lucille Morris when she started working at the Walters office on December 10, 1920. J. Whit Johnson was acting postmaster at the time. She has served with postmasters Dan Voorhees, Ray Wallace, Mae Williams, B. L. Coppick and Sherb Fisk...Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kinder, Corpus Christi, Texas, announce the arrival of a son, Michael Kent, born May 11. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kinder, of Union Valley, and Mrs. Juanita Black, of Temple...The Grand Opening of Walters Electric Co., located at 121 N. Broadway, will be held June 6 to 8. Vernon Broberg is the proprietor of this new business.

Vocational carpentry teacher, Gary Thurman, was selected as Teacher of the Year for the Walters Public School system for the 1982-83 school year. Thurman has taught in the school system for eight years...Merrell Dayne Dilks II, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrell Dilks, former Walters residents, now residing in Binger, is a member of the 1983 graduating class of the United States Military Academy at West Point... Mr. and Mrs. Sam Keim will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, May 29, with a reception in the First Christian church in Chickasha... Gary and Jan Huckabay announce the birth of a baby girl, Chandra L’Kaye, born May 18. Maternal grandparents are Dean and Jean Copass, and the paternal grandparents are Evert and Maybelle Huckabay, all of Walters...The Lone Star school property located five miles south and three east of Temple will be sold by the Temple school board May 30. This will leave Pleasant Ridge as the only publically owned school property in the Temple district. Lone Star school closed in 1939...Dean Copass sold the Copass Texaco Station at 202 S. Broadsay to John Maddox and re-named John Maddox’s Broadway Texaco.

Double ring wedding vows were exchanged by Miss Charla Dee Duke and Bobby Hart in the Church of Christ parsonage in Sentinel August 14. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Duke, Sentinel, and the bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clay Hart of Walters. Bobby is a 1955 graduate of Temple high school, where he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams...A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Stacey August 26 at the Walters hospital. She has been named Kristi Kay. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Jobson. Maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ogilbee...The Temple Future Farmers of America chaper has chosen Miss Dian White as its 1959 Sweetheart. This is the first year the Temple chapter has selected a sweetheart. She will compete at the State Fair of Oklahoma.
