A plan calling for the addition of four vocational training departments in Walters high school was endorsed by the Walters Board of Education. The four departments are commerce, vocational agriculture, vocational home economics and trade and industry...R. L. Williams, of Tulsa, and Miss Lucille Suggs, of Bartlesville, were married Saturday afternoon in the parsonage of the First Baptist church in Tulsa. Mr. Williams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Williams of the South Mountain View community. He graduated from Walters high school in 1933...East Panhandle Station at 303 E. Missouri, formerly operated by T. F. Stephenson, is now under the management of Paul Boudreaux...Bud Minton, who had an attack of appendicitis last weekend, is reported in an improved condition by his physician...Four persons living near Walters were bitten by a dog with rabies this week. Donald Ray and Shirley Joy Bailey, children of Herman Bailey, W. H. Honea and James Henry Clark were those bitten. The dog belonged to Mr. Honea. Dr. Baker ordered rabies serum from the state laboratory.

Leslie Ann Woodley chose January 20 to make her arrival at a base hospital in Hy Wycombe, England. She is the daughter of CWO 3rd class and Mrs. Charles Woodley of Amersham Bucks, England, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Woodley, of Devol...Diz’s Barber Shop, located at 103 E. Missouri, in Walters, is now open for business...Miss Kittie Johnston, former Cotton county home demonstration agent, who held a similar position in Tillman county since 1945, was critically injured in an explosion at her residence in Frederick Sunday afternoon. She sustained burns over 50 percent of her body...A. B. Thurman, superintendent of Walters schools, was extended a contract by the board of education for a ninth consecutive year.

Mike Southall, who is presently Superintendent of Schools at Dill City, in Washita county, was named Superintendent of the Walters system Monday evening by the school board...City Clerk, Helen Thurman told the city council Tuesday evening that she plans to retire at the end of March. Mrs. Thurman went to work in the city offices July 5, 1967, and was selected as city clerk July 1, 1973, on the resignation of Dorothy Shaw...A son, Jason Adam, was born to Dennis and Robin Courtright on January 25. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Killburn, of Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. David Courtright, of Temple...Mr. and Mrs. George O. Copeland will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Mannsville, Okla., on Sunday, February 13th. Mr. Copeland retired from the city of Temple in 1977. George Oliver Copeland and Winnie Mae Sanders were married February 11, 1933, in Temple...Pearl Kimbriel was honored on her 100th birthday, January 30, at Parkview Manor. She was born February 1, 1883, in Arkansas. Her family came to Oklahoma when she was a small child. Her father and mother both died in October, 1893, and she was raised by her older sister and brother. She moved to Cotton county in 1936. She is the oldest living member of the First Baptist church in Walters.

Roger M. Norman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Norman, Temple, has been named a freshman honor cadet in the Air Force ROTC unit at the University of Oklahoma...Louis White, son of Mrs. Gene White, will attend a special study course at the University of Oklahoma for six weeks this summer. He received a National Science Foundation grant for an all-expense paid course beginning June 22. He will be enrolled in electronics and physics courses.
