Dr. and Mrs. H. V. W. Broadbent have announced their intentions of moving to Austin, Texas. The Broadbents have resided in Walters for the past two years, during which time Dr. Broadbent has operated an office in the Wiley building as osteopath and physician... Work was begun this week laying a five-inch concrete slab over the north storage reservoir located in the rear of the city municipal light and power plant. In the past sediment accumulated in the reservoir, that required a great deal of labor and expense to remove, as well as being a health hazard...Miss Helen Beetch became the bride of Lloyd P. Pope, of Fort Sill, at noon on Sunday in the Christian parsonage. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beetch of Walters. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Pope, of west of Walters... Mr. and Mrs. Alvis Vardell are the parents of a son born Wednesday, Aug. 11...Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Smith, of southwest of Walters, are parents of a son born Monday... Marriage licenses were issued to: Douglas Taylor, 21, and Mona Cox, 18, both of Temple; Hubert N. Dunagan, 21, and Lois LeeCoxby, 18, both of Devol; Wayne Breuer, 20, Hastings, and Ruby Hooper, 20, Randlett; H. S. Moore, 34, and Shirley Arrington, 24, both of Walters; and Junior Nahquady, 21, and Mildred Brooks, 20, both of Walters.

A marriage license was issued to Donald Lee Bussell, 29, Lawton, and Freda Berry, 22, Walters...Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Brooks, 315 East Nevada, Walters, pioneer Cotton county residents, will be honored at an open house reception Sunday, August 19, in observance of their fiftieth wedding anniversay. Emory G. Brooks and the former Miss Ina Garrett were married August 18, 1912, at Valley Side Methodist church, north of Randlett. They resided on a farm in the Union Valley community for 47 years before moving to Walters in 1950. For the past 13 years Mr. Brooks has been employed at Fort Sill... Joel Scott Lemons, son of Lynda and Jerry Bob Lemons, Walters, arrived Tuesday, August 9. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ted Southward and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lemons, all of Walters.

Prague Lumber Co., parent company of Walters Lumber Co., located at 118 E. Kansas, closed the Walters lumberyard. This yard, through acquisitions, was one of the oldest business in Walters...Coaching staff at Walters High School has been set for this year. Dwight Easter will be head football coach and boys track, with Richard Grady assistant football coach. Larry Degan will be head coach for Junior High football, with Dale Johnson, assistant coach. Jack Tudor will coach High School boys basketball. Richard Grady will coach High School girls basketball and track... Rebecca Lucas Hornaday, of Walters, and Jim Swindle, of Ft. Sill, were united in marriage Monday, August 9. Rev. Silas Lucas, brother of the bride, performed the ceremony in the chapel of Southwestern Hospital at Lawton, where the bride’s mother, Mrs. Henry Lucas, is a patient.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Spann, Temple, and the bridegroom is the son of Edward Sage, Niantic, Conn., and Mrs. Priscilla Pecksley, Tucson, Ariz...A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ogilbee Tuesday, November 18, in the Walters hospital. She has been named Lisa Ann. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Dave Carden. Paternal grandfather is Charley Ogilbee.
