A boy was born Monday, April 17, to Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Collier, of Temple...A daughter, Sylvia Ann, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Sparks, of Temple, on April 25...Opening for the new S. and G. Grocery, in the old B. and C. Grocery location at 116 S. Broadway, is scheduled for Saturday, C. E. Stevens, manager, said this week. Stevens who was in the grocery business here for seven years until about a year ago, will be associated with Russell Goodsell, formerly bookkeeper at the Morrow Appliance store...A son, Jimmy Dee, was born April 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mowles, of Temple...Stanley Loy has been chosen as valedictorian of the Walters senior class, while Inez Norman was chosen as salutatorian of the class. Loy is the son of J. E. Loy, and Miss Norman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Norman.

Firemen fought for three and a half hours Monday night a winning battle against a fire which threatened to cause extensive damage to B & C Grocery on North Broadway. The blaze, which apparently smoldered in the basement for a period of time, was discovered by Henley Berendzen when smoke started seeping out of the underground area. Firemen were able to keep the blaze inside the basement with little damage to the grocery or other areas...Communications Technician Second Class and Mrs. Donald O. Martin are parents of a son born April 15, at Honolulu, Hawaii. He has been named Steven Wayne. TC2 Martin is with the USN stationed at Wahiawa Naval Command Station, and is the son of Mrs. Alice Martin, of Rt. 2, Walters... Mr. and Mrs. John Marlowe, of Walters, have chosen the name Lisa Diann for their daughter born April 19. Grandparents are Mr. the Mrs. John Hutchins, of Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. John A. Marlowe, of Mullins, South Carolina.

A dedication ceremony in memory of the late Robert W. Kindred will be held at the Temple VFW Post 10590 Saturday afternoon. At the time the Post will dedicate a new flag pole and flag in conjunction with the re-naming of the Post, “Robert W. Kindred VFW Post 10590.” Kindred was a member of the post at the time of his death and a veteran of the Korean War... Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mayes, of Duncan, will celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary at a reception Sunday, May 6, in the First United Methodist church in Duncan. Bob Mayes and Dot Smith were married May 5, 1934, at Bentonville, Ark. They moved to the Hulen community in 1935 where they lived until they retired in 1976 and moved to Duncan... Marriage vows were said by James P. Eley and Inez Greenwalt as they were united in marriage April 14 in the home of Rev. Couch in Devol. Those in attendance were his granddaughter, Mrs. Mike Bledso, and her daughter, Mrs. Mrs. John Powell.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Whitman Dennier, Glastonbury, Conn., July 25 at the Hartford hospital. She has been named Nancy Ann. Mrs. Bud Hooper of Taylor store is the maternal grandmother...A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Morris on July 30 at Memorial hospital. She has been named Brenda Gale. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ross Glasgow. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morris, all of Temple.
