The Badger Lumber Co. was recently purchased by the Prague Lumber Co., and will now be known as the Walters Lumber Co. B. O. Banks will continue as manager, and Dale Botkin as assistant manager...A. R. “Pat” Patterson died suddenly of a stroke of apoplexy Tuesday. Mr. Patterson was serving as Mayor of Walters at the time of his death. He had been a city official for 11 years. He was born in 1876 in Tennessee, and came to Walters in 1907, was engaged in the insurance business, and later in the dray business. For many years he was connected with the Walters National Bank where he served as vice-president. After leaving the bank, he purchased the Wollam Theater which he has since operated...Ray Matney has taken over the management of the Cox Radio and Electric shop. Matney is a graduate of the National Radio Institute, and came here from Wichita Falls, where he had several years of shop training. Charles Cox, owner of the shop, is devoting all his time to the rural electrification project...John L. Bass, former Walters youth and recent graduate of George Washington University, was sent to Oklahoma this week in the capacity of public relations director for the new wages and hours law. Bass is the son of Major Bass.

Nolan Brooks, Walters fire chief for more than five years, resigned his position effective October 31, said Ferrell Phillips, city manager. Brooks gave his reason for leaving the fire department as his health. Sonny Sansome will be installed as fire chief November 1. Sansome has been with the department for some time. Employed as the second fulltime firefighter was Marion Wright, 36 years old, from Ft. Worth...B. R. Stephens, of Elgin, principal owner of Walters National Bank since its organization in 1934, will sell his entire interest in the institution on January 2, 1964. John R. Reynolds, president, and his son, John Phil Reynolds, executive vice-president, have taken an option to buy the controlling interest of Stephens in the bank, and permitting a large amount of the Stephens stock to go to area residents... Mr. and Mrs. Lon Cooper, of Temple, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at an open house reception at their home on Sunday, November 10. Mr. Cooper was born and reared in Bosque county, Texas, and Mrs. Cooper was reared in Hood county, Texas. They were married near Clifton, Texas, by his brother, Jim Cooper. After living in or near Temple for the past 40 years, they moved in to Temple four years ago...A marriage license was issued to J. W. Bills, 57, and Velma Mullins, 52, both of Temple.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Conway, of Randlett, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Teresa Lynn Williams, to Jackie Wayne Crow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Crow, also of Randlett. The wedding will take place in the Union Valley Baptist church on Saturday, October 29... Marriage licenses were issued to: Jerry McCurdy, 38, and Susie McCammon, 34, both of Walters; and Michael Monzell Calfy, Jr., 19, Walters, and Carol Ann Stapp, 16, Velma... The children of Thomas and Beatrice Bradford will host a reception in honor of their Fiftieth Wedding anniversary in the Walters Community Center. Thomas Bradford and Beatrice Powell were married November 4, 1933, at the Baptist parsonage in Duncan.

The Temple Tribune Feb. 11, 1960

A genuine, bonafide duster, bringing parts of West Texas in great clouds, boiled over the western plains Tuesday, accompanied by record low pressures. A 40x56 roof on the north wing of the Temple school was ripped off and is a total loss...Jimmy R. West, of Temple, has enrolled for technical training at Oklahoma State Tech, Okmulgee. West has enrolled in the dry cleaning course.
