J. J. Whitis and Clarence Fletcher became representatives of the International Harvester Co. line of farm implements Jan. 1 in Walters. They are located in the Williams building across the street from the Badger Lumber Co. Dick Martin, acetylene welder and garage man, has moved his business to the same building...Bill Schrader has become proprietor of the “66” barber shop. Jake Hales will remain there...Mr. and Mrs. L. Homer Rogers, of the Lincoln Valley community, are the parents of a baby boy, Buddy Ray...Mr. and Mrs. Guy Park, of the West Cache community, are the parents of a daughter, Friday, Jan. 1...Hugh McAlpine, elected justice of the peace of the Walters district in the Nov. 3 election, has succeeded to that office, formerly held by Roy Norman.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wingfield, of Seminole, announce the birth of a son, Mark Lee, Dec. 20. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Wileman, of Randlett...Randlett Chapter No. 388 Order of the Eastern Star elected officers for the ensuing year, with Mrs. Grace McClurkan as worthy matron, Minnis Wright as worthy patron, Mrs. Maud Underwood as associate matron and Junior Underwood as associate patron. In a surprise announcement late Monday afternoon, Elmer Graham, chairman of the board of Walters Bank and Trust Company, disclosed the resignation of Ben Shackelford, President, and the elevation of the bank’s Senior Vice President, Jerry Bob Lemons, to fill the departing officer’s position. Shackelford will become president of the Farmer’s and Merchant’s National Bank in Nocona, Texas...Marriage licenses were issued to: Robert T. Jones, 43, and Gloria T. Landrum, 38, both of Temple; Gary Lee Williams, 26, and Marilyn Dianne Tivener, 25, both of Walters; and Dennis W. Mtichell, 40, and Lanita S. Kiplinger, 23, both of Temple...Michael and Beverly Houston are the parents of a a baby girl named Suzanne Michelle, born December 25. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Houston, all of Walters...The residence of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett King at 1121 W. Colorado, received heavy fire and smoke damage New Year’s eve as flames engulfed the front of the home. Mr. and Mrs. King were in Lubbock, Texas, at the time.

Miss Ann Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lowe, was named salutatorian...Mrs. Dovie Douglass was elected president of the Temple P-TA at the meeting Thursday. Other officers for the coming year will be Mrs. Lillie Mae Graham, vice president; Mrs. Betty Lewis, secretary; and Mrs. Margie Keeney, treasurer.
