Mr. and Mrs. L. Riney were given a banquet Saturday night by the Farm Home Improvement club in celebration of their golden wedding anniversary. In attendance were their five children, Mrs. Jay Phipps, Mrs. Oscar Branch, Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. McMaster and Will Riney...Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Monroe, of the Pecan Grove community, are the parents of a new son...Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Phillips have a son, Billie Jack, born Friday, Nov. 20...Mr. and Mrs. Lois Chiddix have a son, Billie Lee, born Monday, Nov. 23... “Uncle Obe” Hooper, Cotton county pioneer, and father of C. O. and Tom Hooper, of Walters, underwent an operation at a Wichita Falls hospital Monday. This is the second operation that Mr. Hooper has had recently. He is 93 years of age and is estimated to be the oldest Cotton county citizen.

Nebraska...State senator Fred R. Harris became the sixth democrat to place his candidacy for governor of Oklahoma on the line with an announcement Monday in Oklahoma City. Harris is a Cotton county product...Mr. and Mrs. Eddie York, of Silsbee, Texas, announce the birth of their daughter, Katrenia Ann, born October 30. The new mother is the former Barbara Jean McMahan, daughter of Eugene McMahan, of Buena, Texas, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McMahan, of Walters.

Winners of the essay contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Area District IV are Kristie Hooper, of Temple, placing first, and Grant Ballard, of Walters, placing second...Rodney Edgmon and Marla Hilbert, eighth graders, were named Walters Jr. High Carnival King and Queen...Mrs. Ollie Nance, who will be 90 years old on December 6, visited the 6th grade class at Walters to share her memories of coming to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in a 27 wagon caravan.

Army Specialist Third Class William A. Bean, son of Mrs. Lula Bean, Temple, recently was assigned to the 284th Field Artillery Battalion’s Battery C at Fort Campbell, Ky. Specialist Bean entered the army in 1943 and was last stationed at Fort Benning, Ga.
