Funeral Services for Shirley Howard, 81, Walters, OK will be at First Baptist Church, Walters, Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., Dr. Jack Jacob officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Shirley Ann (Wright) Howard was born to Robert Alexander and Grace Lee (Pannell) Wright on July 3, 1938 at Temple, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on August 3, 2019 at the age of 81 years and 1 month.

Shirley grew up at Temple, graduating from Temple High School in 1955. She married Charles Edwin “Cuz” Howard on April 18, 1958 at Cement, OK and they made their home east of Walters for a time before moving to her current home on the west edge of town.

Shirley began her banking carreer at First Bank in Duncan at age 16. She then worked at First State Bank in Temple until making the move to First National Bank in Temple from 1963 to 1986, serving as head cashier. She finished her 37-year banking career at Union National Bank in Temple from 1987 to 1992, serving as Vice-President and head of credit card processing. She then began working at the State Farm office in Walters, then at Lady Bug Flowers and Gifts, Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home and served as secretary for the Walters Chamber of Commerce

Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters. She loved spending time with family and friends and supporting her son at the races. She also enjoyed helping put on the Walters Car Cruz for several years and enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cuz in 1989; her infant son, Eddy D. Howard in 1963; her brother, Bob Wright; a brother-in-law, J.D. Howard; and a niece, Diane.

Survivors include her son, Charlie Howard of Walters; a grandson, Clint Rollins and wife Christa of Waurika, OK; 3 great grandsons, Cutler, Cayson and Creed Rollins; 2 brothersin-law, Robert Howard of Walters and Ronald Howard and wife Carolyn of Lewisville, TX; 9 nieces and nephews, Vicki, Rhonda, Carla, John, Doug, Michelle, Lauri, Lee and Jamie; other relatives and many friends.
