Funeral Services for Doris Smith, 90, Hastings, OK were held at the Hastings Baptist Church, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Charles McConnell officiating with burial in the Hastings Cemetery. Viewing was on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.

Doris Emerine (Barnes) Smith was born to Harley Edward and Alpha Agnes (Jacobson) Barnes on August 9, 1929 in Hastings, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on June 16, 2020 at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 7 days.

Doris grew up at Hastings. She married Edward Dewayne Smith on July 15, 1945 in Duncan, OK and to the union 3 children were born. The couple made their home in Arlington, TX and Oklahoma City for a time before returning to the farm at Hastings in 1960. They eventually moved to town in 2003

She was a faithful member of Hasting Baptist Church where she was involved in church outreach, decorating for events, helping prepare church meals and taking food to people in the community. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and yard work, especially taking care of her flowers.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewayne Smith; her son, Darrell Smith; brothers, Myron Barnes, Harley Junior Barnes and Ernest Barnes; and a sister, Betty McGinnis.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Michael Gillespie of Hastings; a son, James DeRay Smith of Hastings; a daughter-in-law, Jayne Smith of Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Canada; 2 brothers, Billy Barnes of Midwest City, Harvey Barnes of Hastings; Sisters, Bennaz Chandler of Corsicana, TX, Patricia Waters of Atchison, KS and Marie Caro of Lawton, OK; 8 grandchildren, Paul Smith, Patrick Smith, Robin Smith, Heather Vanbuskirk, Monica Timperio, Trevor Smith, Chance Smith and Travis Michel; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
