Cameron/Lawton Community Band to present fall concert

The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present the Cameron/Lawton Community Band in concert on Sunday, October 13, at 3 p.m. in the Cameron University Theatre. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students, senior citizens and military. All Cameron University faculty, students and staff are admitted free with proper identification.

With more than 50 musicians from communities throughout southwest Oklahoma, the Cameron/Lawton Community Band is conducted by Dr. Jim Lambert, Professor of Music.

In addition to Cameron University students, alumni and faculty, membership in the ensemble includes local high school students from Cache High School, Central High School, Elgin High School, Lawton MacArthur, Lawton Eisenhower, Lawton High, and Lawton Christian School. They are joined by middle school musicians as well as adult performers from the greater Lawton-Fort Sill area as well as Duncan, Fletcher, and Walters.

The repertoire will begin with “The Footlifter March” by Henry Fillmore, followed by “Carnival of Venice” by Herbert L. Clarke. The latter will feature community member Rhueben Green on euphonium. That number will be followed by “Northwest Rising” by Robert Sheldon, “In These Last Days of Autumn” by Russell Standridge, “The Governor’s March” by Leroy Anderson, and “Irving Berlin Showstoppers,” a medley of some of the composers most popular songs, arranged by John Higgins.

The concert will conclude with “Armed Forces Salute” arranged by Bob Lowden, and Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever March.”
