The Dahlia Garden Club held the September meeting with presentation of the club’s yearbook. Members present volunteered to help with various projects. Beginning with the October Luncheon that welcomes prospective new members and recognizes those who have helped the Club with various projects over the past year. Also the officers and other members of the Southwest District of Oklahoma Garden Clubs were invited and a Board meeting for this group was held following the luncheon, conducted by District President, Melanie Spence. Speaker for the luncheon was Nick Plata, Environmental Education Specialist for Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Our Garden Project in front of the Walters School Auditorium added Pansies of blue & white for winter color. The flowers were donated by Bedrock Nursery, Lawton and planted by the 4H club with Denise Tulloh, the leader

November events include the Poster Contest for youth. The students are invited to come to the Library meeting room and make posters for various contests. Pictures are provided of the Bird, Butterfly, Wildflower, and Spunky Squirrel by the State Committee for each student to color in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade, all other grades must draw the picture. Also posters depicting Litter and Pollution and Conservation may be drawn. All contests are judge locally, winners are sent to District and those 1st place winners go on to the State competition. A National contest to draw a poster of Smokey Bear titled “Only you can prevent Wildfires” or Woodsy Owl titled “Keep Our Land Grand” are open to 1st through 5th grades. Smokey and Woodsy go on to National. State winners in each grade level go on to National and the winner gets a trip to Washington, DC to receive their award. In the past we have had 4 state winners go on to the National contest. There were approximately 30 participants working on posters, Tuesday November 12.

The program at the November 5th meeting was presented by Stephanie Smallwood, owner of The Naked Mermaid. She shared her product of soaps and creams and many went to her shop after the meeting.

Another November event is our Fall Bake Sale. You may reserve baked goods (pies, cakes, cookies etc) on our website for delivery on Tuesday November 26.

Our club Christmas Party with singing of Christmas carols and a gift exchange, December 3, will be in the home of Dean Hooker.

Members will bring a new toy to be donated to a local group to be used for gifts. Members will discuss the final planning for the Christmas Home Tour.

Our big fund raiser is our Christmas Home Tour, scheduled for Saturday December 7, 2 p.m. ‘til 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Cotton Bloom Florist and D’s Tease and Taper, or any Dahlia Garden Club member. The Tour will begin at Cotton Bloom Florist at 108 W. Kansas. Hoping to sell 100 tickets. There will be nice door prizes to be drawn for at 7 p,m.
