Replacement of Roy Elliott as manager of the Badger Lumber company by B. O. Banks, formerly of Faxon, was announced early this week. Elliott was manager of the yard for 12 years...Marriage licenses were issued to: J. W. Hooper, 21, and Opal Louise Tabby-To-Sovit, 18, both of Walters; and Raymond Weryavah, 21, and Martha Simmons, 18, both of Walters...Miss Frances Alexander, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Alexander, of Chandler, and J. A. Dowlen, were married Sunday afternoon in the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Cotton in Walters. Mrs. Cotton is the sister of Miss Alexander. Mr. Dowlen, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dowlen, was graduated from Walters high school in 1930. For the past three years he has been deputy county treasurer of Cotton county...WPA projects to begin this month include adding two room to the residence for the teacher and general repair work on the school building at Rabbit Creek.

The old Wegener Elevator on West Texas street, owned by Copeland Grain Co., was completely destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon. The fire was one of the hottest in the experience of local firemen. Jack Copeland said a carload of bailing wire, five tons of fertilizer, over 500 bales of hay, 1900 pounds of ground barley, tires, motors, repair parts for farming equipment, 500 new wheat sacks, roofing materials, cab for tractor and other items were stored in the buildings...A marriage license was issued to Gerald Stowers, 21, Norman, and Janice Lynn Langford, 21, Temple... Miss June Bridgers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bridgers, Rt. 4, Walters, and Robert Taylor Hedges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hedges, Rt. 2, Vici, exchanged wedding vows Sunday, July 28, in the Bible Baptist church in Walters... An unoccupied vehicle, owned by George Roller, parked in the driveway of Preston’s Package Store in the 100 block of E. Missouri, Thursday noon of last week, suddenly took a notion to go somewhere and backed across the street to collide with another parked and unoccupied vehicle, owned by Maloy Timberlake, at Gilliam Grocery store.

Two Cotton County 4-H’ers, Kim Cox and Kelly Hooper, have won first place in state competition on their record books after judging was completed last week. They will receive an expense paid trip to Chicago to the National 4-H Congress. Their record books will also be entered in national competition...Steve and Sherry Wampler announce the arrival of a daughter, Traci Dawn, born Tuesday, August 2. Maternal grandparents are Kay Griffin, of Walters, and Jerry Sellars, of Burkburnett. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wampler, of Walters.

An American Legion auxiliary sponsored chili supper will raise funds to pay for permanent memorial crosses for veterans in Masonic cemetery. Wooden crosses, used in the past as a memorial tribute to deceased veterans, have proved unsatisfactory. Steel is going to be used.
