W. P. (Bill) Stovall and his wife, the former Miss Mamie Henry, and their daughter, Evelyn, will leave Walters Friday for a move to Hobart. Mr. Stovall has been the Rock Island agent here for the past 20 years. He will take the position as agent at Hobart. He came here shortly before the “boomingest” period in the town’s history in 1918. The years of 1919, 1920 and 1921 were the liveliest years, he recalls. He worked for two years with a baggage car as a depot before the new passenger depot was built in 1920...A plan to improve and eliminate dust from Walters’ gravel streets, with no additional cost to the taxpayers other than an original expenditure of approximately $500 for equipment, will be put into operation here as soon as railfall permits work on streets, Bob Lines, city manager, announced this week. Lines’ plan provides for “blotter” type oil streets where the existing bases are strong enough to support the oil mixture...Frank Granot, manager of the Long Bell Lumber Co. here for the past 10 years, will be transferred to Vernon, Texas. Carl Meyer, assistant manager of the lumber store here, will succeed Granot as manager...Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hoodenpyle are parents of a boy, James Martin, born October 21...James Ray was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil G. Huff, October 25. Mrs. Huff is the former Miss Delilah Land...James Dyke, son of Mrs. Glenna Dyke, Walters, who played the clarinet and was drum major for the Walters high school band last year, is playing the clarinet in the Cowboy band of Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Butch Teakell, Walters, have chosen the name Jay Edward for their son born Monday, October 21. Grandparents are Mr. and W. O. Teakell and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wynn, all of Walters...Miss Sally Hough, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Hough and Gordon Hough, of Friona, Texas, formerly of Walters, became the bride of James A. Kohler, Jr., Amarillo, Texas, in a ceremony read Saturday, October 19, in the Friona Methodist church. The Rev. Ray Wallace, pastor of First Christian church in North Hollywood, Calif., uncle of the bride, was an officiant. The bride is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wallace, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Hough, all pioneer residents of Cotton county...Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Britt, of Iowa Park, Texas, announce the birth of a daughter, Bobbie Lynn, on October 6. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Brown, of Randlett.

Kemp Spicer was honored by members of the Walters Rotary Club last Thursday when a certificate from the International President denoting 50-years of membership in Rotary was presented by Darrell Coker, who holds second place for membership in the Walters club. Spicer, actually, has been a Rotarian since 1927 when he joined the Lawton club. He has perfect attendance since 193...Mr. and Mrs. Andy Suson will be honored at a reception in their home on Sunday, October 30, to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mary Helen Paylor and Andy A. Suson were married October 28, 1933 in the parsonage of the First Baptist church in Walters. The Susons have 14 children...Steve and Marilynn Fletcher have opened Fletcher Equipment, Inc., a John Deere dealership, at the old Coker building, 220 W. Missouri...Cindy Smith and Theresa Epp have opened Country Corner Crafts at 102 N. Broadway.
