Eighteen hundred forty dollars were taken by three unidentified men in a robbery of the First State Bank, Temple, about 10 o’clock Thursday morning. The trio entered the bank from the front door, covered bank officials and several customers with drawn pistols and executed the robbery in a slow, but methodical manner. M. F. Ray, President, V. A. Dowlen, Cashier, and C. S. Worsham, Clerk were in the bank. Customers in the bank included G. A. Nelson, of Waurika, liquidator of the Farmer’s State Bank at Temple, J. P. Norman, Jess Knight, Joe Brooks and A. J. Mincey. When they completed looting the bank, the men ordered Ray, Dowlen, Worsham, Nelson and Knight to accompany them as they left. They took the men to the northeast corner of Temple where they ordered the men out and then sped away to the east...Mr. and Mrs. Lelon Daniel are the parents of a son born Thursday, who has been named Donald Wayne. Mrs. Daniel is the former Miss Jessie Hawkins...Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Lindsey, who live nine miles northeast of Walters, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Friday, October 26, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Chambers, north of Walters. Laura Norman and J. D. Lindsey were married Oct. 26, 1884 at Lewisville, Texas, where they resided until 1905 when they moved to Cotton County... Mr. and Mrs. W. Hooper, who live south of Temple, have announced the marriage of their daughter, Helen, to J. W. Dowlen, son of Mrs. John Dowlen and the late Mr. Dowlen, of Temple, which occurred Saturday evening.

Second Lieut. and Mrs. Garland Petty, Columbus, Ga., announce the birth of a son, Scott Spencer, born October

23. The new mother is the former Miss Delores Bridges, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Bridges, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Walters. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Petty, of Walters, are the paternal grandparents...Two Texans who were neither fleet of foot or mind attempted to outrun lanky Herber Barber of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and two Texas Highway Patrol Troopers Sunday evening at a point 6.3 miles southwest of Randlett, and failed miserably. The men had been involved in a one-car smashup. The Texas Troopers had come over into Oklahoma to check the crash and the two men were in custody when Barber reached the scene. They were moved to his patrol car when suddenly they decided to “take to the tall timber.” But instead of timber, found themselves in a sticker patch. One of the men started out like mad, but lost both his shoes. After 50 yards he gave up, with his feet filled with burrs. The other man was chased about 200 yards before he was hauled in. Barber confided that if the fleeing man hadn’t stopped when he did, the race would have been over anyway, as he and his associates were winded...Mr. and Mrs. Dickie Eastman, of Wichita Falls, announce the birth of a son, Michael Charles, Sunday, October 25 in a Wichita Falls hospital. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Eastman, of Randlett...Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rape, Long Beach, Calif., announce the birth of a daughter, Cynthia Jan. Mrs. Rape is the former Miss Ethel Davis, daughter of G. M. Davis, of Walters.

Clinton E. Hart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Hart, of Route 1, Walters, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Air Force. Colonel Hart is the Chief of Supply with a unit of he Strategic Air Command at Anderson Air Force Base, Agana, Guam...Lisa Petty was selected by representatives of the Walters Blue Devils as Homecoming Queen. Her attendants were Sheri Murphy and Robin Gonzalez...Outstanding Senior 4-H boy and girl, Michele Thomas and Roy Wickham, of Temple 4-H Club were honored at the achievement banquet Saturday at the Walters school cafeteria. They also received the Farmers Union Award, as well as the State Club Congress Award... The residence of Joe Dan Griffin in Randlett, burned Friday morning about 3:00 a.m. Mr. Griffin was not at home at the time. Everything was lost in the fire...Mr. and Mrs. Gene Red Elk announce the birth of another son, Adam Keith, on October 29. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Marjean Colbert, of Walters.

The work of remodeling the Majestic Theatre building, followed by the installation of up-to-date equipment, will be started in the immediate future, according to Mrs. Frank Jemison...Charlie Knight, Chief Petty Officer, and his wife left Tuesday to visit his father at Henryetta. At the termination of his furlough in March, he will leave to assume his duties at Cairo, Egypt. His wife will accompany him.
