Still sharp-witted and able to carry on his oil business from his home in Norman, Willoughby Dean (Wib) Priddy, former county farmer and oil man, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth Friday, October 18. He was born October 18, 1863, in Tazewell county, Illinois. The family moved to Iowa in 1881. He married Florence Mae Essex in 1898. They moved to the farm five miles east and three and one-half miles north of Walters in 1908. His son, Everett, still lives on this farm. His father, O. C., and brother G. G., moved here in 1907. Since 1916 the interest of W. D. Priddy has been in oil development and production. That year he wanted to see oil produced in his neighborhood, and rounded up about 1200 acres of land on lease, but had to turn back some of the leases because he wasn’t about to immediately interest a drilling or producing company. He made a deal with J. F. O’Donohoe of Wichita falls to drill a well on March 30, 1917, and production was obtained for the first time on the G. G. Priddy lease, just west of the W. D. Priddy home place. This was the start of the productive oil field northeast of Walters... Mr. and Mrs. L. F.
