Fire which started when lightning struck the Pecan Grove School House, nine miles west of Walters, during a heavy electrical storm Sunday night, completely destroyed the two-room school building, together with all school equipment and books and supplies of the school children...Appointment of Earl Pinkerton to serve as County Superintendent has been made by the Board of County Commissioners following resignation of Jay F. Smith, County Superintendent here for the past three years... The marriage of Miss Beatrice Wilson and Dick High was solemnized in Walters Monday evening. The bride is ithe daughter of Mrs. R. E. Martin of the Union Valley Community. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom High who live southeast of Walters...Miss Rachel Richards, daughter of Mr. I. J. Richards, and William Davis, son of Mrs. C. R. Lewis, both of Walters, were married last February 25 in Duncan. The marriage was kept a secret until this week...Mr. and Mrs. Sam Potter announce the arrival of a daughter at their home on Saturday, September 8. She has been named Norma Jeanine.

Ray Berendzen sustained a fractured rib, possible internal and head injuries, when he apparently slipped and fell 12 to 16 feet while changing a fuse in the refrigerator building in the B & C Grocery. He was found unconscious at around 5 o’clock Tuesday morning, on the ground beside a new addition at the rear of the building, after his father, Henley, began a search of the area. Marks on his chest and face indicated he landed face down from the fall. He was said to have regained consciousness before reaching the Lawton hospital...Mr. and Mrs. Don McCasland, of Devol, announce the arrival of a son, Brent Wayne, born September 1 in a Wichita Falls hospital...Miss Karry Lou Rhoads and Bill J. Harrison were united in marriage Sunday at the Randlett Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rhoads, of Randlett, and the groom is the son of Mr. Fred Harrison, of Devol...Miss Billie Marie Suggs became the bride of William Zed Penn Friday, September 4, in the First Christian Church in Lawton. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Lee Suggs, of Lawton, are parents of the bride, and the bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John A. Penn, of Walters...Miss Sherry Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bacon Thompson, of Walters, became the bride of Bill F. Crow, August 28 in the Geronimo Baptist Church. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Willie Crow, of Geronimo...Now open for business is the new home of the meter and transformer shop of Cotton Electric, located at the corner of Fifth and Colorado...Miss Kathryn Joachim, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Joachim, of Walters, and Berry B. Bruce, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle H. Little, of Oklahoma City, recited wedding vows Saturday, August 29, in the First Methodist Church in Walters.

Peggy Mahan has recently been employed as second grade teacher in the Walters Elementary School...An unusual blast cap was found at Sultan Park last Thursday by Tom Files, Drivers License Examiner. He immediately notified the Walters Police Dept., who contacted the 61st Ordnance Disposal Unit at Ft. Sill. The device was not an ordinary one...Martina Beames is a new teacher in the Temple public schools. She is teaching 5th grade. Her husband, Sid, is football coach there... Miss Debra Ann White and Pat Taylor exchanged wedding vows Saturday, September 8 in the Calvary Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jackson, of Comanche. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Taylor, of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Shaw, of Randlett, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, September 15, at their home. It will be hosted by their children, Ross Allen Shaw and Mrs. Nadine Shaw Crittenden...The wedding of Lee Reinke and Kenneth Lewallen took place August 31 in the chapel of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City. The bride is the daughter of Senator and Mrs. Joe Johnson, of Heavener, Okla. The groom is the son of Mrs. Martha Lewallen and the late D. W. (Bud) Lewallen, of Walters.

Coffer, has been transferred to Kodiah, Alaska, after taking four weeks scholing at Port Hueneme, Calif...Born Monday, November 25, to Mr. and Mrs. Doyal Pinson of Temple, an 8 1/2 pound boy, who has been named Harold Douglas...A boy who has been named Michael Earl, was born at Stillwater November 29, to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E. McCluskey. Mrs. McCluskey is the former Miss Rosalie Rodolph of Temple.
