More than 70 descendants of four Crow brothers who settled north of Walters in 1927 held a June 24-25 reunion in Medicine Park, Okla. The heirs of the brothers Gus, Will, Jim and Jeff Crow have gathered every year since 1953, aside from one pandemic-year postponement.

Approximately 71 family members and friends met for either the Friday night homemade ice-cream social or the Saturday morning worship service followed by the potluck lunch at the Medicine Park Event Center. Friday’s initial event was opened in prayer by Don Crow and the Saturday activities were opened with Cheryl Crow and her children, Emery Crow and Shelby (Crow) Johnson playing guitar and leading the group in hymns including “Sweet By & By.” Don Crow then presented a sermon based on a passage in Matthew where Jesus revealed Himself to his apostles.

After the meal, Scott and Rory Crow conducted the annual auction of donated crafts and homemade goods to raise funds for the next reunion. The top lot was a milk-can stool that once belonged to Emery Crow and Kay (Clopton) Crow; it was decorated by Diane (Watson) Keenan and sold to Scott Crow for $200.

Phillip Crow, who is also president of the festivities, then called the business meeting to order, and treasurer Linda (Crow) Frazier read the financial report. Ms. Clopton read the minutes of last year’s reunion and announced her retirement after many years of faithful service to the reunion. Historian Janice (Crow) Luman followed by reading an update on the latest family developments for the past year, which included four births, three marriages, six deaths and one high-school graduation.

Children with ties to the Crow family born in the past year included Owen Daniel Hampton, son of Daniel and Katie (Gilbert) Hampton, grandson of Phillip and Dusty (Gilbert) Crow; True Owen Crow, son of Tanner and Kensi (Orf) Crow, grandson of Ricky and Sandra (Hrbacek) Crow; Lyda James Crow, daughter of Tyler and Katie (Campbell) Crow, granddaughter of Ricky and Sandra (Hrbacek) Crow; and Owen Andrew Martin, son of Andrew Martin and Sage Rhodes, grandson of Keith and Sasha (Foppiano) Martin.

Family who died since last year’s reunion included Charlotte Marie (Mitchell) Sims, daughter-in-law of Elmer and Lorraine (Crow) Sims; Carol (Crow) Bahr, daughter of Kenneth and Mary Lou (Morgan) Crow; Donald Eugene Frazier, son-in-law of Jack and Wanda Crow; and Jonathan “Jon Jon” Wiley Moett, son-in-law of Dusty and Diane (Watson) Keenan.

Marriages in the past year included Garrett and Harley Danielle (Watson) Shaw, daughter of Emit and Laura (Holmes) Watson; Jesse Dean Andrew and Jamie Lucille (Crow) Blood, daughter of Donnie and Doris (Almond) Crow; and Coy William and Brooke Linn (Crow) Bass, daughter of Rory and Emilie (Hoffman) Crow.

Jacob Cade Robinson, son of Heather (Mallow) and Rusty Mixon, grandson of Teresa Crow and Marlin Mallow, graduated from Benton High School in Bossier City, La.

Steven Crow, a lawyer who is campaigning for District Judge of the 5th District, which includes Lawton, also spoke to the family.

Officers were elected for the coming year, including Phillip Crow as president, Rory Crow as vice president, Linda (Crow) Frazier as treasurer, Lanetta (Crow) Martin as card sender, Janice (Crow) Luman as historian and incoming secretary Kelly (Crow) Hayes stepping in for retiring Ms. Clopton.

The group adjourned with expectations to meet again on June 24, 2023, in Medicine Park. We extend a big thank-you to all the family members and the event center, who made it possible to get together again. The patriarchal brothers behind this event are buried in the Walters cemetery.
