Friday the Walters Blue Devils traveled to Carnegie Oklahoma to try to end a fourteen game losing streak that’s been ongoing since the loss to Crossings Christian in the 2018 State playoffs. This season has been rough for the Blue Devils with low turnout and the pandemic making sports hard to plan. With only sixteen boys on the roster it makes it all the more important to keep up with grades and go injury free both have been a big issue the team has faces weekly. The Blue Devils despite all the odds never give up and fight till the end in every game this year.

Fridays game was one the boys of Walters could see the “W” according to senior Ethan Burton. “We have the heart and if we can all play the game without doubting ourselves we can beat anyone” That fire and energy was present the moment the boys ran thru the cheer line but at kickoff, signs of what was coming for the Blue Devils appeared. A slight breeze blew the ball off the kickoff tee and kicker Johnny Boyd’s foot grazed the ball as he tried to stop the kick resulting in the ball being spotted well within Walters territory. Before fans could blink Walters was down 28 to nothing at the end of the first quarter and the Wildcats looked to have the foot on the gas and not be letting up.

The second quarter was a different game all together. The Blue Devils defense stepped up with several forced fumbles by Ethan Burton and Karson Coleman. Neither the Wildcats nor the Blue Devils could manage a score in the second quarter and the game went to Half 28-0 The second half started and just as the first half it started very odd. Walters Blue Devils came out late but once play got underway it was clear why it took so long. The Blue Devils came out with a new game plan and the first drive they looked strong and on the same page. The defense of the Wildcats steps in and gets a turnover and the two schools battle back and forth for most of the third quarter. A late long run by the Wildcats ends the third quarter with a score of 36-0.

The fourth quarter becomes the Blue Devils show. Great defense gives the Blue Devils the ball early. This leads to a score by Preston Fremin as he catches a pass from Kason Johnson and scrambles down the sideline for a Walters touchdown. The kick fails and the score is now 36-6. The Walters defense comes up again as a stripped ball ends up being returned by Ethan Burton setting up another touchdown this time to Karson Coleman. Conversion fails and the score is now 36-12. The Wildcats and Blue Devils once again becomes a defensive game and the game ends in a 36-12 loss.

Next up is the final regular season game at home against Cordell. Walters will be looking to snap the two year losing streak and head into the playoffs on a positive note. Start time will be 6:15pm CST as this is homecoming and those festivities will take place before the game.

Ethan Burton, Karson Coleman, and Clay Graham lead the defense in Tackles. Clay Graham had the most rushing yards. Karson Coleman and Preston Fremin lead in receiving yards. Five separate Blue Devils had fumble recoveries. Ethan Burton fumbled twice both being recovered be Walters. Kason Johnson was Sacked 6 times and threw 6 for 16, was intercepted once, and threw two touchdowns. GO BLUE DEVILS!
