J.W. Thompson

Funeral Services for J.W. Thompson, 86, Temple, OK were held at First United Methodist Church, Temple, Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Jay Driskill officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple. Memorial Donations can be made to First United Methodist Church or the Temple Cemetery Association.

James William “J.W.” Thompson was born to James William “Bill” and Martha Pearl (Isenhour) Thompson on July 22, 1933 at Temple, OK and departed this life in Fitzhugh, OK on December 18, 2019 at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 26 days.

J.W. grew up at Temple, graduating from THS in 1952. He married Lawana Sue White on January 9, 1953 at the Waurika Methodist Church. In April of 1953 he entered the United States Army serving honorably until his discharge in April of 1955. He and Sue then made their home in Duncan where he went to work as a machinist for Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company. Their son Craig and daughter Renee were both born while at Duncan and then in 1961the family moved back to the Thompson homeplace north of Temple where J.W. was born.

J.W. retired from Halliburton in 1991 but continued his farming and ranching. He loved being a good steward of the land and was awarded the Outstanding Conservationist in 2001 by the Cotton County Conservation District. He was also a longtime active member and served as trustee at First United Methodist Church in Temple. The couple just made a move to Fitzhugh, OK in October of this year.

He enjoyed attending rodeos and participating in the grand-entry with his daughter and grandkids, and enjoyed their play days, horse shows, livestock shows and taking them fishing. He always loved his dogs and enjoyed a Snickers and Diet Mountain Dew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Thompson; his mother, Pearl Thompson Powell; his infant sister, Geraldine Thompson; and his son, Craig Thompson in 1993.

Survivors include his wife Sue Thompson of the home in Fitzhugh; his daughter, Renee Thompson of Ada, OK; his granddaughters, Skyler Streater and husband Tanner of Choctaw, OK and Mikayla Jenson of Ada; 2 great grandkids, Tatum and Asa Streater; other relatives and friends.
