Ella Mae Hughes

A Memorial Service for Ella Mae Hughes, 82, Temple, OK was held at the Church of Christ, Temple, OK, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., Rodger Schwenn officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Ella Mae (Larkin) Hughes was born to Commie and Noble Lee (Cox) Larkin on January 13, 1937 at Palestine, TX and departed this life in Lawton, OK on August 16, 2019 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 3 days.

Ella Mae grew up at Palestine and Tennessee Colony, TX, attending Massey Lake School. She married Frederick Douglas at Palestine in 1955 and to the union 2 daughters and 2 sons were born. He preceded her in death in 1966 and she later married Leon Hughes at Wichita Falls, TX in 1968. To this union a son was born.

Ella Mae worked at Haggar Slacks in Temple in the 70’s and 80’s, and then was employed as a home health aide with Gentiva from 1995 to 2013. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, home decorating, sewing, and shopping at thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Commie and Noble Lee Larkin; a son, Frederick Douglas; a daughter, Hazel L. Douglas; sisters, Queen Foreman, Florida Larkin, Annie Moten, Stella Cox, JoNella Larkin; brothers, Otis Larkin, N.L. Larkin, H.L. Larkin, Dwight Larkin and J.B. Larkin.

Survivors include, her daughter, Doris (Larry) Taylor of Walters, OK; her sons, Kenneth Douglas and Patrick Hughes; her granddaughter, Tara Hardaman (Donald) Session of Waco, TX; great grandson, Steven Robinson of Waco, TX; a great granddaughter, Stephany Robinson of Waco, TX; a greatgreat granddaughter, Sara LaNay Robinson of Waco, TX; her sisters, Geneva Smith of Lubbock, TX, Ernestine Smith of Palestine, TX, Emma (Willie) Smith of Dallas, TX, Regina Smith of Arlington, TX and Dollie Sipert of Dallas, TX; her brother, Archie Larkin; other relatives and many friends.
