Edwina Sue (Sykes) Simpson Odom was born to Edgar Harbison and Laura Adele (Lax) Sykes on July 19, 1943 in Burkburnett, TX and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on September 16, 2020 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 28 days.

Edwina grew up west of Walters in the Ahpeatone Community, graduating from Ahpeatone High School in 1961. She went on to attend Cameron University where she met and soon married Philip Carl Simpson. They made their home at Lawton and then on to Oklahoma City. To the union a daughter and son were born. They divorced and she later met and married Johnny Ray Odom. They moved to the Mead area of Bryan County, OK where they owned and operated a resort at Lake Texoma called The Hut, which they operated from 1979 to 1989. They also owned the Ebb Tide Bar east of Kingston, operating it from 1983 to 2000 when Johnny Ray passed away. She then moved to Oklahoma City but has rented out the bar since that time.

In 2003, she and daughter Susan moved to Highland Village, TX. Upon Susan’s passing in 2013, Edwina returned to Oklahoma City to be near her son, Alan. She enjoyed going to casinos, reading westerns and eating was a joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Johnny Ray Odom in 2000; and her daughter, Susan Adele Simpson in 2013.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Alan Lee and Renae Simpson of Oklahoma City, OK; her cousins and friends.
